Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: No Wii successor talk until Wii hits 45 million in US

I'm not avoiding the topic. I'm talking about it dude. LOL.

I asked you if you know any other console that sold more this year than the Wii and you didn't reply ;)

Right now, the console is tracking above the PS2 in the same time in period, and tracking way above any other HD system.

Sure 360 and PS3 are getting boost, they having major hardware and software right now to lift it up, while the Wii has nothing on the hardware side and the software side is lackluster comparing to the HD machines (now someone will jump on me and start a list war with somebody else)

And yet, it still manages to sell terrible amounts.

Like I said, I got tired back in 2007 discussing sales and motion controls. As a Wii owner, I'm not impressed anymore by either motion controls that mimic what I've been praising since 2006 (and many other trolling) and I'm not impressed by sales of the 2nd and 3rd place consoles.

That's why I'm gonna wait for the numbers and don't waste anymore time trying to explain you what's second and third place, and whats 76 million and what's 45 and 41.

EDIT: Basically, what all this says is that 2011 is going to be a fine year for the Wii and it will hold up the house till Wii 2 kicks in.

No, yet again you're talking about lifetime sales.

Wii isn't even remotely dominant so far this year, and it's been beaten by BOTH HD systems since E3. Next year we'll see this even earlier. If you think that's "terrible" for 2nd and 3rd place consoles then it doesn't say much about the market leader does it. Wii had a price cut last year, but even before summer came around it was posting YoY losses despite being $50 cheaper? proof Wii price cuts arnt sustainable for more than 6 months, unlike PS360 ones.

Both HD systems have been butt raped by the Wii since launch. Suddenly the tables almost turned upside down this year, but like I said, in 2010 the Wii sold more and I bet with you that no console will surpass it this year. Neither the next.

Its all about timing with price cuts and compelling software.

Let's wait for the numbers and stop "spamming". We're derailing the thread a little, we shall move to a random "Wii is doomed" thread to discuss this.

Wouldn't take that bet, already said Wii will win this year. You havn't come up with any reasons as to why Wii will be ahead next year. HD consoles will be ahead by at least mid 2011, and they'll both have a good xmas season. Whilst it'll only get worse for the Wii ... sub 80k weeks are coming.

I'm sorry if I didn't made that clear to you. My reasons are:

- price cut (I don't know if the PS3 or 360 can have some price cut too without falling into losses again)

- Games: We are yet to zee Selda, Pikmin and Wii Relax or whatever they call to the Vitality Sensor. Nintendo can crap out 10, 15 and 20M sellers like anyone else can, so in this front no one can judge nothing.

- Redesign: Although this one might not happen. It did wonders for the 360 and PS3 though, but its not entirely possible.

The ultimate reason: It is the market leader console and the one that pioneered and made motion controls happen on the other consoles. People know about it. It will only sell.

My ultimattesterest reason: Ask TheSource if the Wii will be outsold by any HD console next year. He shall explain it way better than anyone else.

I'm sorry if I didn't made that clear to you. My reasons are:

- price cut (I don't know if the PS3 or 360 can have some price cut too without falling into losses again)

360 hasn't had it's baseline console cut since 2008, now it has a slim model, by the time we get to Sep 2011 it'll be 3 years since it's last price cut, you don't think they can afford one? Depsite posting higher profits recently than Nintendo (despite selling ALL that SW an the DS?) PS3 .. since when were PS3 price cuts determined by profit? you know what Sony is like just as much as I do. Let me remind you, PS3 and Wii had a price cut last year, 360 didn't.

- Games: We are yet to zee Selda, Pikmin and Wii Relax or whatever they call to the Vitality Sensor. Nintendo can crap out 10, 15 and 20M sellers like anyone else can, so in this front no one can judge nothing.

Zelda? Isn't the highest one 5 million? As the years go on SW has less and less impact, you can't surely think Wii is going to have some massive HW booster game every christmas do you?

- Redesign: Although this one might not happen. It did wonders for the 360 and PS3 though, but its not entirely possible.

Could do, doubt it though. That and apart from graphical updates what can they add? If it's just a new box it's not going to sell like gangbusters. PS3 slim is selling so well because of the price cut, not the actual redesign (it's ugly and cheaper compared to the phat PS3, and actually removes from previous models) 360 Slim added wifi, small HW (something that wouldn't remotely benefit Wii), better reliability and quieter.

The ultimate reason: It is the market leader console and the one that pioneered and made motion controls happen on the other consoles. People know about it. It will only sell.

Not really helped it over the last 4 months has it? Just saying "it'll outsell them because it can isn't a reason.

My ultimattesterest reason: Ask TheSource if the Wii will be outsold by any HD console next year. He shall explain it way better than anyone else.

Fair play to him but I take anything source says with a grain of salt, he's often more times wrong and heavily favours wii.

Let me remind you that TheSource is one of the persons behind VGChartz numbers, I wouldn't trust more in my own opinion on the matter than on his opinion.

As for your answers:

Pricecuts: 360 didn't had a price cut since 2008 but many models have come and gone, and now the redesign model. Same for PS3. Wii had nothing of that. Just one single price cut in its life. Period.

Zelda: The highest selling Zelda made like 7M copies and it is Ocarina of Time. Yes, the Wii will have every xmas an hardware booster. Its been like that on Nintendo consoles since forever except when a successor is to come or is already in the market (Xmas 2012 for the Wii won't have any major title I'd guess, xmas 2011 won't have any major DS title because of 3DS)

Redesign: 2 gb of flash memory, wiimotes plus and a sleeker design would be enough, afteral the 360 slim just got WIFI and a new design and lifted up sales.

On the last four months: The Wii has been doing good for a console that had no price cuts, no new models and lackluster software. If that happened to any HD consoles, now you would know what low sales is (50k weeks or even lower, like we've seen on 360 and PS3 already)

I'm not refuting they have, I'm talking about the baseline cut (which is most important), how you think Wii is capable of a price cut next year but the 360 isn't just goes against all logic. I didn't think I even needed to explain myself here but obviously I'm proved wrong.

Zelda: The highest selling Zelda made like 7M copies and it is Ocarina of Time. Yes, the Wii will have every xmas an hardware booster. I can't be bothered to go look at past consoles games, pretty sure your "forever" comment is flat out wrong though.

Redesign: 2 gb of flash memory, wiimotes plus and a sleeker design would be enough, afteral the 360 slim just got WIFI and a new design and lifted up sales.

It's already bundled with wiimote plus now, and you think people will care about 2gig flash :S, I already listed what 360 got, which is a lot more than the possibles for Wii you just listed. People don't upgrade in masses just for a new look, especially casuals, they don't care.

On the last four months: The Wii has been doing good for a console that had no price cuts,
Forgetting the price cut last year, and 8 months after that price cut it was posting it's lowest ever weekly figures.

no new models and lackluster software. If that happened to any HD consoles, now you would know what low sales is (50k weeks or even lower, like we've seen on 360 and PS3 already)

PS3 is still riding high off it's price cut, 360 IS riding high from better HW. But it doesn't matter why they're riding high, we all already know this, the fact here is that the HW IS selling better, and if Wii doesn't get it's slim (which I very much doubt it will)  it's pointless you even bringing up why they would be selling bad.

You seem to go off topic and try and slag off the HD consoles in some way, where it's completly irrelevent.

Win!

You just proved yourself right on the internet once more.

I'll shut up now and wait for the numbers.
