Planescape: Torment, which has the best story and narrative ever written in a game, is still very sought 11 years after it's release. It is currently 3rd on GoG.Com.

Speaking about adventure games (interactive fiction) I do believe the action genre absorbed it for the most part. Still some doing the classics, but now they mix puzzles with action. It used to be action-adventure, now action titles seem to get story driven.
