Microsoft is also making a retail push. As reported at ITmedia, Microsoft has been refreshing the Xbox sales corners at 5,500 shops throughout the nation since October. Since the start of this month, 100 shops feature Kinect demo units, with 50 having special staff to explain the device to patrons. Microsoft and retailers will be teaming up for Kinect demo events to be held mostly on weekends. For further event details, visit Microsoft's Kinect event page.

Third parties are also getting in on the act. Sega is holding a demo event and tournament for Sonic Free Riders at its Joypolis amusement facility. Konami is holding a DanceEvolution demo event featuring an appearance by music producer Naoki Maeda.

I have absolutely no idea...

Quite badly is my guess.

And lots of reasons (excuses) will be given as to why.  If this was a nintendo or sony product it would fly. Simple as.

While be MS brand is bad for Kinect, I doubt it would fly if it was from Nintendo/Sony.  Space requirements are a killer for Kinect in Japan.  There's just no way around the fact the average Japanese room is very small.

Otherwise I agree with kowenicki, I'm not expecting much.  Space coupled with brand is stacked against the device in Japan.  I note Move didn't seem to go gangbusters despite being on the more popular console locally so I'm really not expecting anything here.

It will sell mind, just to a small subset with the space/interest.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Kinect will struggle to sell 10k if Move only managed 15k first week.

Surprisibgly bad.

Anyway i think that kinect will give the ,terrible anyway, xbox360 hardware sales a small boost. The Japanese home console market is not at its best form anyway, judging from the fact that the ps3&Wii (the actual relevant home consoles in Japan) are selling less than 35k each week combined.

I don't think it will have that many sales as Kinect launches on the 20th (which is a Saturday). Games usually launch in Japan on Thursdays. I'm not sure why MS chose to launch on a Saturday, as usually only Pokemon and Dragon Quest games launch on Saturdays.

It will have at least 1 sale (from me) as I have a stand-alone Kinect unit pre-ordered at Amazon JP. (I have a Halo Reach 360S, so I didn't get one of the 360S console bundles ;-p )
