Forums - Sales Discussion - Games expected to sell well (qualify well) that will bomb (define) in 200

Super Paper Mario - This isn't what the majority of Wii owners want to be doing with their Wiis, and I think it has a hard sell to the 'gamers' too.

Blue Dragon - For the reasons already stated.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3, Japan) -  I can't see this doing big business.  Respectable business maybe.  I see it doing very nicely in other regions though.

Metroid Prime 3 - It has to compete with the big boys and no excuses.  It will make or break FPSs using the Wiimote, and I predict the latter.

Brain Training Wii - It isn't going to do anything like the DS versions.  Also, the fad is over.

Around the Network

So as not to arouse the ire of anybody I'm gonna try to pick just one game from each of the three home consoles.

1- Heavenly Sword-PS3, while this beast may have won awards galore at E3 2006, Ninja Theory's track record isn't exactly awe-inspiring with their last game, Kung Fu Chaos for the Xbox, scoring on average a 6.7 out of 10 I'll definitely have to see more of this game to actually trust these developers.

2. Big Brain Academy-Wii, much like Cooking Mama for the Wii, I'm thinking this one might also follow the sad fate of a Wii DS "port", not enough new cool features to differentiate it from its better DS iteration, although I'm not really well-informed on this one so I might be way off base.

3. Blue Dragon-Xbox 360- I'm referring to sales in the U.S., considering that this game was pretty much built from the ground up to sell in Japan, I don't see it doing incredibly well on a system that despite some good effort from Microsoft is still known for its shooters and previously only american RPGs like Fable and Morrowind. While the console is certainly starved for JRPG's, considering that Dragon Quest VIII(similar in both style and look) sold around 400,000 copies on the "home of JRPG's" the PS2 in the U.S. I just don't see BD doing well on the Xbox 360 in the U.S.

MGS 4, FF13 , due to the fact that they are on the PS3, which has a very small base, they'll sell well, but no where near the level of their predecessors, probably half as well at best

I don't think that the ps3 will have that small of a userbase then. And will increase due to these games being system sellers. Also, due to ff13 being q1 2008, the ps3 userbase will be around 8-14 million, and if the rumour is true that a price drop for ps3 will happen in october, ps3 will be selling very well.

And in the fact that these games are system sellers, and that the fanbase will buy it regardless will help the sales. FF13 has a diehard fanbase. I don't expect them not to buy the game because it is on the ps3. It doesn't make any sense.

MGS doesn't sell in Japan and FF is not that big in Japan, its average, and people in japan are asking for FF13 to be multiplat

yes an online poll in which 169 japanese people said this surely tells us "japan is asking for it to be multiplat"........jesus, but then, the first thing i bolded about FF not being that big in japan totally brings your credibility to a screeching halt so i guess your FUD about japanese wanting FF13 to be multiplat should be ignored

Looks at charts, nope its not that big, Big is games that sell like 4 million+, the recent FF's have sold around 2.5 million

i am looking at the charts http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?sort=japan

as of me typing this of the top 13 console games released from the PS and beyond 6 of them are final fantasy and 3 of them are Gran Turismo games 2 are dragon quest, 1 is derby stallions and the other is everybody golf.

This means in japan, of the 13 top selling console games past PS era (includes n64, xbox, gamecube, wii, 360, ps2, ps3) 6 are FF and 3 are Gran Turismo meaning 9 are PS3 exlusive as a franchise

and since youre captain dictionary and "big" means over 4 million only mario, pokemon, animal crossing, brain training and tetris are big in japan...thats it, huh? interesting

funny how you term "big" to mean 4 million yet a couple hundered goobers from japan voting in an online poll tell us "japan wants FF to be multiplat", what terrible logic and a terrible post

EDIT: there were a couple n64 games i accidentally skipped, but the majority of this post is still intact

I think Ninja Gaiden will have a batter chance in Japan and Europe, since it was an Xbox exclusve. The Japanese market never got a chance to play the game considering the Xbox's low market share.

 Ninja Gaiden    XB    Tecmo     66,713

Even in the American market it would have sold about 800,000 at the best,

Year 2004 sales were 500,000+, lets say another 300,000 in the rest of its shelf life.

I dont have euro sales, with me but I dont expect the game to have broken 300-450,000 in europe.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma will do better than the Xbox iterrations in Japan, might even hit 400,000-500,000 in its lifetime.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>
