Tonight I was able to get my hands on Kinect, so to speak. It's always going to be a casual piece of equipment, but there's nothing wrong with that. One of the games I was able to play was boxing on Kinect sports. This was my most anticipated game on kinect sports to play since Wii Boxing was my favorite from Wii sports.
As soon as the match began, I tried to tilt left, tilt right, go for a few jabs...techniques I had learned from prior experience. Sadly this failed. Then, I decided to screw technique and unleash a fury of punches. That worked quite a bit better. Overall I had fun with it, but I couldn't help comparing it to Wii boxing. If I had to choose, I'd say Wii boxing>Kinect Boxing.
Certainly the aspect of kinect have greater lag effected the gameplay, but not to a great deal. It's one thing to detect an arm waving around, or a running motion, but when you sting like a bee...more accurate detection helps.
I also thought the psuedo third person allowed for greater clearity amidst the action. You were able to functionally plan your execution of your opponent, instead of throwing random punches that might be detected. When I would go for a mid section blow, it was not clear if I had thrown a punch.
In a nutshell my experience with wii boxing 4 years back felt more intuitive and functional.
Of course I did skip the tutorial, so maybe that would have helped :D I realize more experience with Kinect might allow me to conjer up greater technique. Perhaps I was missing the nuances of the game. However on face value I say Wii>Kinect.
For those who have played Wii Boxing(almost everyone) AND Kinect Boxing, what do you think? Was your experience about the same, or did you find Kinect Boxing more enjoyable?
P.S. I don't care what you think of the Wii or Kinect as a whole. Stay on topic!!
