Forums - General - Dune vs. Foundation

I prefer Dune just because I did not like having the entire cast of main characters reset 2 or 3 times per book.

With that said, I did still enjoy Foundation, and still recommend you read it eventually as well, but i would go for Dune first...

I'll probably end up doing this. I'm gonna pick up both the first Dune novel and The Foundation trilogy for a very cheap price, so I'll read both eventually.

I had Dune bedsheets when I was like 8.

I've never heard of Foundation.

So i'd say Dune.

Edit: Found a picture of the Bedsheets.  For the record... Sci-Fi books are a kids best friend when you read at a "high level."  Lots in there for a kid's imagination to stay engaged, but it's still written at an adult level so you learn a lot too.

I guess it's no surprise you visit sites like this. The signs are always there!

Actually this is the only site like this I visit.

Only been active on 3 message boards in my life.

Old AOL MUD board.

A Heroclix board that I wrote scenarios for...

and then here.

I've got low patience for "proffesional" trolls as intentional ignroance is about the only think that really gets me mad.

Well and rape jokes.

Dune... bedsheets? Never seen their like.

Echoing the sentiment about sci-fi (adding fantasy), though. When I was small, the Dragonriders of Pern were just about the coolest things of all time.

Noon: 22nd Century =) But if you insist to choose from these two, I'd go for Foundation. Though probably I'm biased since I've read Foundation first, and never wasn't able to force myself to get through even original series of Dune novels despite obvious similarities with Foundation, which I like. I guess I become too old for this kind of literature =(

Yeah, surprsingly they made a fair amount of Dune kid's merchandise.

Real thing there....

At least there was no Tek Wars kids stuff... at like 10... that first Tekwars book might of scarred me for life.  Not really but man do I still remember parts of it today, and not for good reasons.

I that meant as some kind of insult? And are these childrens books??? I thought they were serious books.

No insult intended, it is a good litearture regardless of it's other qualities. I believe we've already have a conversation on space operas, so no point to repeat myself.

Dune is not a space opera, though. At least the first four novels aren't.

Dune is deeper, Foundation flows better.

Agreed. The really great ones are Dune (the first one) and the Foundation Trilogy (first three books) of Foundation.
