Forums - Gaming - Black Ops: Online gaming subject to additional fee

I blame PS3 users for rejecting the idea of paying for online gaming and then paying for Playstation Plus. It just proves to people like Kotick that they're just lying and they want the company to make it extra special with flowers, dinner, and romantic music before letting themselves get reamed up the behind.

Yeaaa it's the PS3 users faults that Kotick is a greedy fucking prick.

yeah when PSN PLUS offers you flowers like multiple games, themes, addons, discounts, people take it

and the best online gaming isn't part of it as you don't have to pay for it on PS3

They could add a monthly fee of 10 cents and as long as it requires a credit card, you'll see a massive decrease in loud children online...

Those inquisitive enough to scour the retail box for the Wii edition of upcoming release Call of Duty: Black Ops will have noticed a slightly distressing text in which a guideline reads “Online gaming is subject to an additional fee,” spotted by NeoGAF member Jethro.

In quick comparison, the box art of similar online multiplayer titles such as Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, or even the recently released Goldeneye 007, contains no such statement. So, what precisely does it mean?

Whilst is has often been rumoured that Activision would introduce subscription fees for the ever popular multiplayer aspect of their Call of Duty series (something that has been denied outright at every turn), we can expect such a statement here to be more directed towards the release of future downloadable content. Especially considering that Wii owners are finally being treated to the sleeper hit Zombie survival mode this time around.

Whilst less popular than its Xbox Live and PlayStation Network counterparts, Nintendo have never charged Wii users to play online and presumably would rather deny Activision the rights to release such a title on the console than resort to offering subscription services.

You can catch the text on the rear of the box art below:

Monster hunter Tri had a subscription fee in Japan.  Not a Nintendo published game, but a Wii game with subscription nonetheless.

Well if it uses Nintendo Wi-Fi connection they can't charge for it, MH Tri had its own servers which meant Capcom COULD charge a fee.

Your troll is very unsuccessful. Go back to your bridge please. My mothers partner is an excellent bridge player, you'd better be scared if I send her after you.

Dude, he's right though.  PS Plus is not paying to play online to any degree whatsoever.  It is not, nor will it be required to play any game online.  It is for the people who enjoy purchasing games off of PSN and enjoy having different themes, etc.  These people can pay $50 a year, and get a long term rental where they can have $100's worth of rentals.  I really don't see how this is to blame.
