Forums - Sony - PS3 'not enough' to handle Yamauchi's vision

The PS3 is arguably the most technologically impressive games console on the market - but the creator of Gran Turismo 5 has claimed the system still wasn't powerful enough to yield the game he wanted to make.

Polyphony boss Kaz Yamauchi believes that every PlayStation he has worked on has "restricted" him - and Sony's latest is no different.

"Software has to be created under the restriction of the hardware," he told the latest issue of Esquire UK. "With each new PlayStation, the vessel has become bigger, but its still not enough.

"With Gran Turismo 5 we've made it as clean and beautiful as possible within the confines of the space we're given - but of course there's a lot more that we want to put in."

Luckily for us lot, Yamauchi won't be able to squeeze any more cleanliness or beauty into the much delayed game: He announced that it had gone gold this week.

We're still waiting on an official release date - although Sony reckons that thetitle will be here before Christmas. Fingers crossed.

well if this is how long it takes to make a game while restricted by the hardware I would hat e to see how long it would take him without restrictions lol

And that's why he is the best at what he does.  ;)  Gotta love him

there won't be any console without restrictions.

sony made the PS3 that way because if they don't this guy won't finish the game ever   (Joking obviously)

Meanwhile, every other developer is saying, the hardware is more than good enough, we need to focus on gameplay.

I doubt anyone playing GT5 will be thinking, man this sucks, its just not good enough.

maybe he should move to PC development. Im pretty sure 3x SLi of the GTX480 or 580 with the core i7 980x or the sandy bridge cpus coming out will be enough power for him. I really would love to see what he would create with that much power honestly.

Still he can complain all he wants, he will make GT6 on the PS3 and then GT7 for the PS4 and like it.

And how many people would be able to run the game on their computers? He's a businessman too.

I remember reading once that the PS consoles are built to optimize the GT franchise. So him saying that seems odd.
