Forums - Sony - Stinger: Sony sells ~200K a week in Europe and 200K+ in US week following B

Also from the article:

"Chief Financial Officer Nobuyuki Oneda said Oct. 25 that the company may miss its target to sell 11 million of the consoles during the year ending March 31."

Sad news for Sony if their CFO is correct.

They're just preempting the inevitable. That target is absolutely impossible to reach, the PS3 would have to start selling about as much as the Wii does.

And I think that Oneda will be right ...

this year 250k + 400K (15)+ 400K (22)+ 400K (29) low estimate = 1.45 mil
comes at about 1.45+ 6.94= 8.39

Sony would have to sell 2 Million consoles a month in January through March to come close to making their prediction ... This would mean the PS3 would have to sell like the Nintendo DS, which simply isn't possible. Sony is going to fall short by a good 5 Million consoles.

so only 2.61 not that far away? or is it this year only?

By the start of January we should have a somewhat clearer picture of Sony sales and the likelihood of them reaching that mark.

Hmm if it's for this financial year only then I do concede that it is highly unlikely that they will reach their goal.

I think Sony has created somewhat of a confusion with the "fiscal year" thing .I think that they were saying that they would have 11 million console sold at the end of the fiscal year in march .Not that they would sell 11 million console from march to march .

If it was as I am telling the console will reach some 8.4-8.5 million consoles sold by years end and will have to sell some 2.5 million in three months thats some 11 weeks providing they give the results the 23 march .2.5 million in 11 months would mean some 225K sales a week worlwide .And January is still a month of high sales specially in Japan and the first week in Europe with some thanksgivings festivities the 6 january .If the PS3 sales can settle down to 80K weekly for USA ,Europe and some 40K for Japan they could definitely reach their target .

If they were refering to 11 million from march to march and another 4.5 million until march 07 for a total of 15.5 million its obvious it isnt possible .

In any case very strong sales for PS3 right now ,hopefully once it reaches the 5 million sold in both territories and some 3 million in Japan it will turn into a great software mover .That would be good for the industry .

 Indeed, let's hope he's off.

It's in their fiscal report for crying out loud. FY07 means April 1, 2007 - March 31 2008, 11 million in that timeframe.
