Forums - Microsoft - Kinect overstocked, is it not selling in Canada?

Joelcool7 said:

Why are some people classifying this topic as a doom thread? I'm just wondering if Microsoft over shipped or if demand isn't actually as high as anticipated. I mean seriously MS did expect to sell 5-million units this holiday season, that is a crap load so maybe they over supplied.

Also its interesting to see how the Canadian market is doing differently then as one user put it (Texas). I wonder why the thing isn't sold out in Canada?

There will be variances from regional market to market. They don't always get the shipments right, despite the effort that goes into gauging demand for individual markets, all the way down to local retail outlets.

The vast majority of reports show that initial shipments for the standalone Kinect kit are sold out through most retail outlets, including major online sites, with bundled consoles readily available.

A quick check on Ebay shows that the average asking price for the standalone Kinect kit is about $199, and there does not appear to be a huge scramble at that price. Lots of 0 bids at that price, probably because for $100 more, you could buy the 4GB bundle and get a new console with it.

USA and UK are the main places 360 is big

there it will be hyped up and sell big until year ends and then normal decline

I would say Canada is 3rd in 360 oriented popularity (pretty much mirrors USA) and is up there with those two countries for sure, as im in Canada...

I don't expect Kinect or Move to sell big anywhere, honestly, and thats because the Wii beat them both to the punch years ago, regardless of Ps3/360 popularity by region. That just my opinion.

yeah canada was a big 360 ground but its losing ground there not like US and UK where it still sells more or equal

Got any Canadian NPD numbers to back up your claims ?? Oh and equal to what exactly is the xbox360 selling in the U.S and the U.K , the ....ps3 ??

nah i was talking about the shipped canadian figures

about  the US and UK figures,i was talking about the recent figures and the weekly tracking not the numbers from the back of the gen

like few week ago PS3 and 360 figures were equal in UK. and other times 360 usually oversells it by a bit or alot

but normally other places than UK,US PS3 beats the 360 so that was the point that US,UK are the strongholds of 360

So you have chartrack numbers for the U.K market ??  NPD numbers for the Canadian market ??  Just curious since you seem so sure that the ps3 and the xbox360 are selling equal there ...

SO YOU DIDN'T READ MY REPLY

if you did,do you know the meaning of shippedf numbers, they aren't the ones tracked by npd

and the uk numbers were from VGC itself

me saying 360 sold bettan than or equal to PS3 makes me being sure aboute PS3 and 360 selling equal there????????

you need a lesson in english to understand the language better

Oh believe me i understood what you are implying perfectly.

I noticed you didn't mention Wii fans crying which is Kinect main target.

first of all... Kinect isnt out in the UK or anywhere outside N.America yet.

Did Canada secede from North America? Because I'm sure it's still a part of it.

OT: This is just 5 stores in one province, and the provinces could differ drastically from the rest of Canada. I don't think you could base much off of it.

Also as someone else pointed out they probably overshipped in some areas and undershipped in others. It would be extremely hard to predict the exact demand of each area so they all run out of hardware at the same time.  The same way  with shipping bundles vs stand-alones.

EDIT: Ah wait, I read it wrong. Disregard me.

then that would imply that the primary purchasers of kinect are preexisting 360 owners, which goes right in line with microsoft over estimating demand,

Plus ebay prices are already dropping to below retail plus tax on bundles and the sensor alone selling for little to no premium with some even selling well below retail,

I think it is fair to agree that microsoft wasn't able to turn kinect in to the next big thing on hype alone, but we will have to wait and see if word of mouth can make it a huge hit, if people love it, it should be a huge item this Christmas, if they don't, no amount of marketing will sway potential buyers if their friends say it is nothing special

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have read here on VGChartz that in the US and U.K the Kinect is impossible to find, selling off the shelves.

The reason why it's impossible to find Kinect in the UK could be that it's not released there yet.
