people who behave like animals should be treated like animals.

Who exactly are you talking about here?

you participate in these discussions regularly dont you

Yep. But I still don't know exactly who you're talking about.

Edit: Also the title is misleading. It should probably read 'Three Israelis attacked by lynch mob on way to a pub'. 'Lynched' implies that they were actually killed.

Well if you think three students and a tourist were acting like animals by getting lost, then clarifying it isnt going to get us anywhere.

No, no. I was wondering how broadly you were applying this term to the Palestinians.

Well, it wasnt being applied to any palestinians, actually.  To my understanding (of jerusalem and the wording of the article) these were all arab-israelis.  So its just a reference to the israelis that participated in this crime, from the young child to the old man.  They seem more akin to a pack of rabid dogs, to be honest.  And people dont typically wait for a rabid dog to kill someone/something before they deal with it.

Yeah, they're actually citizens of Israel, they get health insurance, education (all funded by the Israeli government), they can vote for the parliament, they pretty much live better here than they would in most arab states...

It goes both ways the jewish settlers do equally horrific things to the palestinians and the palestinians retaliate with equally horrific things. Both sides attack each other mercelessly and refuse to compromise. The best thing that could happen is an immediate ceasation of settlements and a two state solution pushed through.

But I think it's gone to far for even a two state solution. Groups like Hamas wouldn't cease hostilities even if Israel agreed to roll back settlements, and Israeli settlers would likely say screw you to the government and keep attacking palestininians.

The hatred is just to strong. I mean seriously Mickey Mouse in the Gaza strip encourages kids to become suicide bombers. I doubt that even with a two state solution that their would be peace for a good hundred to two hundred years. The hate is just too strong!

The situation in Israel is comparable to taking the entire nation of Haiti and carving out an area between Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Iowa, resettling all Haitians in that land, recognizing it as a sovereign state, and then expecting the displaced midwesterners to not have animosity over lost land their ancestors held for generations before the Haitians were resettled.

I feel for the Palestinians, but not to the extent where I condone suicide bombers going into a restaurant where a 5 year old Israeli kid is celebrating his 5th birthday and blowing himself up killing the 5 year old and everyone else inside.

The world, besides a few anti-semites, recognizes Israel as a sovereign state. Palestinians are in the same boat as the Kurds where they are a large nation of peoples who do not have a state to call their own. BTW, Kurds are the largest ethnic group (also called nation) in the world who does not have a state to call their own.

this used to happen in America too.

What's that got to do with anything?

You'll be surprised.

Why don't you be more specific instead of wasting my time?

If you don't know, I rather not waste my time being more specific with you.

I think his trying to say that it's a problem that's exclusive to that region. Discrimination attacks happen in first world countries as well, in Australia for example, 5,000 people gathered together and started a riot against the Lebanese community, bashing anyone that looked middle eastern and marching through the streets calling for middle eastern extermination and pretty much being blatantly racist ( a few radio hosts and political figures joined in as well).

My cousin and his friends had been leaving a party a few months ago and they were bashed close to death by a local football team, pretty much because my cousin and his friends are Lebanese. These kind of attacks happen all the time, it's obviously going to be worst in that part of the world, but it isn't something exclusive to that region.

That's what I think he meant anyway.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Not quite.  Afterall it wasn't the Haitians who did it, but the British.

Also, can't quite compare Haiti's problems with the holocaust.

Wow that's crazy. I didn't really know anything like that happened in first world countries like Australia.

Look I'm asking you to be more specific because right now you sound like an anti-American asshole who just says stupid shit about America because its the most powerful country in the world, and doesn't have any actual reason to dislike it. Why don't you say something more than "this used to happen in America too" and we can maybe agree on something.

Unfortunately, it's not politically correct to report on antisemitic attacks that aren't committed by Neo-Nazis (doing so would inflame community tensions), so a lot of people are surprised to hear how much antisemitic crime there is. If this happened in Europe, very few newspapers would risk covering it and no TV stations would dare say anything.

I agree with most of everything you wrote above, but I can't really recall a situation in which the settlers attacked and tried to kill an innocent bystander that they had no reason to suspect.
(While in the times of the second intifada, a lot of suicide bombers infiltrated into settlements and murdered pepole over there).

As an Israeli myself, I agree that we should let go of the settlements, but more due to international pressure and the fact that protecting them requires a lot of resources that could be spent on other things, like populating the southern regions of Israel.

However, I really don't think that it will help negotiations with Palestinians in the slightest, I want to ignore Hamas (who put the destruction of Israel as one of the main focuses of the organization), because even when it comes to Mahmud Abas, he refuses to acknolwedge Israel's right to exist, especially as a jewish state.
As long as this thought process rules the Palestinian leaders, I really don't think that the Israeli government should do anything that harms the well-being of it's citizens...
