These kind of things happen in first world countries all the time.
Unfortunately, it's not politically correct to report on antisemitic attacks that aren't committed by Neo-Nazis (doing so would inflame community tensions), so a lot of people are surprised to hear how much antisemitic crime there is. If this happened in Europe, very few newspapers would risk covering it and no TV stations would dare say anything.
