You're not thinking about this very hard... you know the copious amount of reference links found at the bottom of every wiki entry?
Use those, Einstein. Wiki, while not a reliable source of research information itself, is a great link-gathering site for real research papers and information.
Also, you'll quickly learn that there's a good chance you know more about computers and the internet than your professors. Take their "advice" with a grain of salt. At least I found that out quickly, though I'm in IT so I guess it should be expected.
