Forums - Sony - Sony wants Nintendo to do well with the 3DS

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=273854

SCEA's senior VP of marketing Peter Dille has said he hopes Nintendo does "a good job" with the 3DS because it could increase consumer interest in 3D content - which Sony is pushing heavily with PS3 and 3D Bravia TVs.

"Our perspective is they are doing something different and that's what Nintendo does," said Dille. "They've got their own view, Sony has their own view. Our hope is they do it well because we're big advocates of 3D. We need consumers to have good 3D experiences.

"I actually haven't seen much of their technology. I know people are excited about it. I've heard a little bit that if you move your head a certain way you might lose the image," he added.

"I just hope they do a great job, building a great 3D platform so people are interested in other 3D platforms. Because, collectively, we need to make sure a consumer has a good experience with 3D however they're experiencing it so they have an interest in more 3D."

A very sensible view, I really hope Nintendo do well enough to push interest in 3D as a whole as well. And he is very correct in saying that 3D needs to a good experience however the consumer gets to it.

Interesting and comprehensible.

Of course they do. They want Nintendo to make 3D as mainstream as possible so that people will become interested in buying their 3D TVs.

Haha. Don't take this seriously. That sentence shows his true intentions.

Its portraying it as a win/win. That way if they get their ass totally handed to them they can still spin it as a winner.

Tease.

That too of course, but that doesn't change that what he is saying is completely true.

LOL, I thought the same thing. Its like, we want 3DS to succeed, but the technology isnt great compare to what we do.

I thought that was true, that if you're not viewing from right in front then you lose the 3D or the image looks funny?

To be honest I reckon Sony and Nintendo should merge and make one console that has all of their existing libraries and properties, I mean, they're both pushing 3D in one way or the other, so it'd be beneficial for them, and due to the range of games, it'd be beneficial for consumers too, only needing to buy one console, lol.

If they do that, what would the console be called?

Anyways it seems sensible, I mean if the 3ds is a success it'll push consumers to 3d in general.

Sony does not want Nintendo to do well with anything. They would much prefer them crashing to the ground in flames leaving them to be the rulers of the video game market.
