They said it was sold out everywhere with preorders, it wasn't

Should they have said virtually sold out?

So there might still be a few places you can get one. But most retailers don't have them.

250k isn't sold out unless you are under supplying them, and they had tons at launch which didn't even come close to selling out despite them shortening the stock to make it more likely

So they sold 250K? Or did you come up with that from pre orders?

Sigh you don't understand, for like a week MS ways saying it was sold out (before release) as in the preorders, that was a blatant lie

it didn't even have half a million preorders lol

Forget the pre orders, they predict 5 million will be sold throughout the holiday.

They lied about how well it was actually selling and you think they won't lie about predictions? They only uped the predictions because move was going to easily clear the 3 mil bar, so they want to look like they can do more even if they can't

Dude, you don't go into a shareholder's meeting and lie.  This isn't highschool.  There is accountability.

Take off the tinfoil hat.

They weren't lying to the shareholders they are lying to the press

Meanwhile they're telling their shareholders "Tee hee hee, we're just kidding about that, really.  Don't get your hopes up!"

If the world worked like you think it does (telling people a product is sold out will automatically make then buy it and you can sell anything with a large enough ad budget) then no company would ever go under and every product would be a massive hit.  I mean, Sony told people they would want the PS3 so badly that they would be happy to get a second job to afford one!  Jack Tretton also said that if you could even find one in stores after launch they'd pay you $1200 bucks for it!

That's why the PS3 shot out of the gate like a rocket and never looked back.

Perhaps it was at many retailers. I'm not sure if they said it was sold out EVERYWHERE in NA.

when microsoft is giving a free kinect to everyone they bump into and even random patrons of burger king, then yes, you'll never be able to meet demand.

i wonder if they would be giving away all these free kinects if they thought that they would be sold out.. it doesnt make sense.  if they think that they'll be backordered and never have enough kinects to satisfy demand then why on earth would they give them away?  theyre not going to get more people using them than there already would be.

if your goal is to create a user base and can only make 100 kinects in x amount of time, your user base will be at most 100 after that amount of time.  it doesnt matter how people get the kinects.  why would they be giving them away to everyone and their grandmothers (literally)?

All in all between BK and Oprah and all that they're probably giving away about 10-15 thousand of these.  If you expect to sell 5 million 15k is a drop in the bucket.  It's less than a 1/3rd of 1% of the total sales.

those arent the only places that have or are going to give kinects away... macys had a kinect giveaway thing also, and i also think there was a post about some girlscouts getting free kinects or something and im sure there are other places giving them away also.  not to mention all the testers of kinect also got to keep theirs also.

and even if it was just  a drop in the bucket, it still doesnt make much sense, but i guess when you have a 500M dollar marketing budget you try and cover all bases, even some things which may not make much sense.

No their telling the shareholders it's all part of their marketing strategy, and it's not like this is the first time a company has used the strategy, I really have no idea what basis you are calling me crazy on

The fact you have no proof of lying other than your opinion.

Not really, if demand exceed supply they would have sold out and they wouldn't have so many spare 360s to give away, and they didn't and they do so they are lying, it's obvious take off your MS colored glasses
