when microsoft is giving a free kinect to everyone they bump into and even random patrons of burger king, then yes, you'll never be able to meet demand.

i wonder if they would be giving away all these free kinects if they thought that they would be sold out.. it doesnt make sense.  if they think that they'll be backordered and never have enough kinects to satisfy demand then why on earth would they give them away?  theyre not going to get more people using them than there already would be.

if your goal is to create a user base and can only make 100 kinects in x amount of time, your user base will be at most 100 after that amount of time.  it doesnt matter how people get the kinects.  why would they be giving them away to everyone and their grandmothers (literally)?

All in all between BK and Oprah and all that they're probably giving away about 10-15 thousand of these.  If you expect to sell 5 million 15k is a drop in the bucket.  It's less than a 1/3rd of 1% of the total sales.

Get a perspective mate, the BK thing is 2600 units, the Boys and girl clubs was about 4000 units, and I bet Oprah and Ellen were 2000 max a peice .. that's 10k units ... out of the 5 million they're shipping.

But of course, keep fooling yourself Kinect is going to sell loads because MS is giving them all away if it makes it any easier for you ...

lucky for MS maybe? less people will be dissapointed, and those that still don't know better will buy it when it becomes available.

Should they have said virtually sold out?

So there might still be a few places you can get one. But most retailers don't have them.

So there might still be a few places you can get one. But most retailers don't have them.

250k isn't sold out unless you are under supplying them, and they had tons at launch which didn't even come close to selling out despite them shortening the stock to make it more likely
