Well you can directly thank 3rd parties for that. I assume PS2 would've turned out similarly had they treated it like they've treated Wii, probably worse even.

That's because 3rd parties put basically everything on PS2, from day zero. Imagine what last gen would've been like in Japan had FFX been announced for GameCube and DQVIII announced for GBA, before PS2 even launched...
Besides which, there were plenty of 3rd party failures on PS2 too. More than there have been on Wii actually.

Yeah, some of those numbers are pretty suspect. They came from TOSE Software, but they never sourced them to anyone. Some of my problems below...
