Forums - Microsoft - Kinect uses less than 10 per cent of Xbox 360's processor

hm....  hello?

err..okay, my post posted as a blank.  anyhoo, ...

i'd wager that the amount of processing needed will depend on the game; tracking one player or two, tracking just the head or the entire body, ect.   either way 5-9% is a decent chuck of space especially if you want a really big or detailed game.

for reference, do we have any solid numbers on the amount of processing that move uses?

Totally agree. For all we know that can just be from turning the thing on...I am not saying that it is.

Can't blame them for saying this tho' as all companies make these claims regarding whatever product.

I bought some Motorola walkies talkies that claimed seven miles coverage for a biking trip...yeah right.

It has 8 spus...

One locked out, and one strictly for the OS. 6 SPUs available for games. They released this info back at release or even before as I recall.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

HOLY FUCK, less than 10%!

As a consumer, things like this are incredibly important to me. Now there is no doubt whatsoever that I am going to buy Kinect.

10% is kinda a lot... lol

anyways for move:  they said it takes one fraction of one spu (the ps3 has six spu's), and for reference, they said that most games never come close to using all six spu's.  it also takes 2 mb of ram to run move, 0.004%

And the relevance of MOVE here is...?  since when is apples v oranges a valid comparison?

The point of this article is merely to point out that the hunger of Kinect has recently been reduced.  That can only be a good thing.

he asked i answered.  theyre competitors so i see it as relevant, it gives context ...:)

Its good that they keep refining the programing behind kinect. I hope for great things from it, and the less it uses for itself the more it leaves for games. Hopefully they can keep doing updates for it after release so they can keep improving on what they have. Maybe get that down to even less.

I do wonder...  If the processing is handled by the hardware that Kinect is connected to, is it reasonable to think that in the long run (through software patching/ upgrades, etc.), the PC version of it will most likely outperform the 360's (as in: not requiring a Kinect hardware 2.0) ?

1.  That linked thread is about a sales promotion and not Move... odd choice.

2.  I have a PS3 and will likely get MOVE in the New year.

3.  Most of the sony fans commenting in every single Kinect thread have no interest in owning a 360 let alone Kinect.

so...

Yep.
