You can also plug in any USB keyboard and use that for messaging, including MSN. I hate the d-pad too so I bought a mad-catz fightpad, pretty good for those XBLA games.

Pfffft, it's skill. If it's any concellation, I'm not gonna bother improving that time before I get the full game. I'm 3rd on my speed wall there, and behind by 8 seconds. I'm not going to spend an eternity beating those guys if our times are wiped when the game releases.
