Forums - Nintendo - Wii camera almost ready!

Call it the Wii See.

Or, if it's got 3D capabilities, Wii See 3D.

Or, if you want a serious name for it, how about WiiView?

Name it the Wii Eye.

And Comine it with the Vitality Sensor so it can track finger movements, just like Kinect!

..well, at least one finger.

This could make it good for many women, but how about men, or women with higher minimum requirements?

While I know this is a joke thread, I wouldn't be too surprised to find out that Nintendo was working with a camera (of some sort) for their next system but I doubt there approach would be exactly like Sony or Microsoft ...

One thing I think is a possibility is combining low cost projectors and cameras to have the game enter into the player's environment and not remain confined to the television; the reason I see this as a possibility is that very small, low resolution projectors and cameras are getting to a price level where they could be sold as an inexpensive add-on or included with the release of a system for not too much money. In an ideal set-up you would want 3 or more projector camera pairs to be able to project an image on a surface which had minimal impact from a user's shadow, but 2 would be adequate in many/most situations, and a single pairing would still be of some use.

Now I should note that the resolution of these projectors would (probably) be below standard definition TV (480x320 or possibly 320x240), and the frame-rate would (probably) be fairly slow (24hz or 30hz), so it wouldn't be all that good for rendering complex 3D images; but if you wanted to generate a play surface (like a DDR mat or whatnot) or something like a heads-up-display or world map it could do a fairly decent job.

But, this is just a theory of mine, and Nintendo is probably going in a completely different direction

I agree, but I was also thinking about combining RGB plus Infrared in the same camera, for example, mid-low res versions like those needed for motion detection purpose should be feasible in a relatively short time. About resolution, Kinect's RGB camera is already quite cheap, but without any doubt it will take at least another two years to be able to get all the components needed for a camera-only detection at a price low enough. And learning from possible MS mistakes will be useful too for both Sony and Nintendo, just like MS has a great chance to fill a hole left, at least temporarily, by both its competitors, OTOH.

Where as the Sony and MS followed the Motion Control path set forward by Nintendo. I've been calling for Nintendo to use a Camera. Mostly for Augmented reality and image importing with ease. I really think Nintendo should follow Sony's and MS path on Camera integration.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
