Yeah, it's a pretty off setting novel, you should definitely give it a read.
Clive Barker's 'Books of Blood', Cabal, and Hellbound Heart (what Hellraiser movies were based on)
pretty short but freaky stuff. Poe and Lovecraft already named - also highly recommended

Very much so, that man is incredible.
Dracula is also a good option, and the shining, although tbh you might as well just watch the movie of the shining, it was pretty well done

Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft are by far the two best horror writers ever.
Read anything by either of them.
