It would be pretty dumb to launch the day after black friday in the US.

they should release it on black friday, and have a huge poster like microsoft did with kinect in front of best buy, and all over large video game stores, and ship 7 million, so taht people look for GT5 as the first thing on their black friday list, would push a tremendous amount of consoles, to the point of selling out, if they bundle it with a blue PS3

That would be terrible too. Anyone who pre-ordered would be doomed to waiting in line with all the other shoppers. Also, it would be impossible to have midnight launches at many stores because there is no way they are going to open at midnight on black friday.

Ideally, you would want to launch slightly before black friday like CoD does. That way you can satisfy the gamer need then move on to the holiday shoppers.

One big pro, but a lot of cons... Unless the first shipments largely exceed preorders AND Sony have made some deal with the biggest chains to make them manage people that preordered without making them wait with the others.

Another factor is that UPS doesn't do normal deliveries on saturday, That means anyone who ordered online would have to wait til the next monday or beyond to get their copies. I certainly wouldn't want to be anywhere near a shopping mall on black friday weekend, it's complete and utter madness.

Also, people who shop on black friday aren't looking for the latest releases. They are looking for the massive discounts on products first and foremost.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

why is black friday the big shopping day in the US, here in Australia our black friday equivalent is boxing day  all the big stores usually have some big ticket items below cost to start the frenzy  and fuel is added to it by people spending there  christmas money /gift vouchers and looking for post christmas bargains , so why is NOV26  big

There is a national holiday on the thursday before black friday called thanksgiving.

so did it come about by retailers trying to cash in on thanksgiving or is there some mechanism at work similar to boxing day
Btw i agree why would anyone want to  release on that date no one would think of doing it here on boxing day it's basically a frenzy and the consumers are after bargains and the stores can get rid of a lot of stock

Basically, everybody outside of the retail industry gets the long weekend off. That means most of the country has a free day with nothing to do. Since it's a month before christmas, it's the retailers opportunity to open the holiday shopping season.

yeah, launching JUST AFTER black friday is a bit weird and risky because people may be "out of cash"

HUUUUUUUUUGE!

550k sent to France only.

  • 450k standard copies.
  • 100k Collector Editions.
  • 5k Signature Editions

http://www.01net.com/editorial/523302/gran-turismo-5-la-sortie-pour-noel-se-precise/

For comparison Activision sent 650k copies of Call of Duty : Black Ops for 360 and PS3 combined.

If I am not mistaken this says that the copies have been sent to France. Have they already started shipping?

OMGGGGGGGGGGGG

I just read the french article :

- GT bundle incoming (!)
- more than 550k WITHOUT counting the bundle numbers

big news IMO

Time to Work !

Others sources are confirming the date... now IGN UK.

It's official. Not a rumour.
IGN UK have also confirmed the release date of GT5

- Nov. 27 in US

I'm excited
