The sales of the PS3 really aren't surprising to most PS3 owners. I own all three consoles, but I have always felt that the PS3 has the best, most expansive library of all genres (Despite the talking back and forth). It was for this reason the PS1/PS2 saw great success. Options. Options. Options. The PS3 has great first person shooters maybe not the 'best' but great ones (Resistance / Killzone),Great action/adventure games (Uncharted, God of War, Demons Souls), Great Platformers maybe not the 'best' but great ones (Ratchet and Clank / LBP), Great Sandbox games (Infamous), Great Stealth Games (Metal Gear Solid 4), Great Racing games (Motorstorm, Gran Turismo, Mod Nation Racers), Great downloadable titles (Flower, Pixeljunk Shooters, etc). Now with the addition of Move some great Motion Control games (Sports Champions, Possibly the Fight / Sorcery). This is all on top of boasting the most power from a hardware perspective and arguably the best graphics from a visual perspective. The above are just 'console exclusive' game options. It's a sytem with plenty of third party support to boot . I challenge you to name one current console with a listing of (console-exclusive) games across multiple genres (Reviewed critically close to as well or better) as the PS3? This is the biggest reason the PS3 is still witnessing success, despite what I would call one of the worst launches ever.
If you want to blame anyone for sales, blame Microsoft and Nintendo for not desiring expansion into these markets. For not tapping revenue streams in these markets. For focusing on only the 'worthwhile' markets. |
I totally agree with this. Nintendo was getting so used to the cash coming in that they got a little lazy until now. I think they will be a better company after the reality check they are currently getting with the losses and declining sales. It's the same way I viewed Sony at the beginning of this generation - and they did work their butt off.
Microsoft was busy getting timed exclusives and previously Sony exclusives that their first party dwindled to almost nothing. I bet now they are going to have a good look at their strategy. My 360 broke and out of warranty the 2nd time last week, and honestly I can't say I want to buy another one until they get some more true exclusives that can only be found on 360 (I don't like Fable, Halo, Gears, or Forza). I like Forza, but once GT comes out if ever - I'll probably forget about it rather quickly.

but sony are overshipping! they are forcing retailers to take extra stock even when they have thousands unsold on shelves. i know this. i checked myself in some stores and so did all my cousins as well as their cousins and so on. the ps3 cant have sold more than 360 because of the AMAZING INNOVATION known as kinect HAHAHA

guys don't be mean. For those excited to see the ps3 sell more there is pent up excitment for those who saw there preffered console get knocked out of it's top of the weekly charts it's more of a shock or disapointment.
Plus I don't own a 360 and a party at his place would let me check out some cool games.
Move isn't the reason why it bumped in the smaller regions, its the fact that after 4 years the PS3 is finally moddable. My friend is in Lebanon right now (Middle East) and PS3 is huge and they are all sold with Jailbreakers. Until September of this year, Ps3 was pretty much non existant there because it being the only console not moddable. I'm pretty sure a lot of smaller regions are seeing similar numbers.
Its clever for Sony to put littlest promotion fund into Move and get a comparable result as to M$ dumping $500 million into Kinect (Time Square event, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen Degenere). Even the motion control market turn out to be a fad, Sony will still be profitable, M$ has better hope Kinect sell like crazy now that they have lost Bungie and on a road of no return to the casual market.
Almost 10 Million gap 1 year and 2 months ago. Now 3.8 and decreasing. Even with Kinect hype I think PS3 will outsell Xbox 360 sometime 2011.

Umm...PS3 is big in the Middle East too, by the way...not sure where you got the "non-existant" talk from.
