Oh my.

I will never get it where Sony is selling thoses PS3s. It can't be NA, it can't be Japan, it can't be UK, it can't be Australia.

There is also rest of the Europe outside of UK. Also Sony probably sells a lot more consoles in developing countries compared to MS or Nintendo as they have very large distribution network around the world.

That's obviously a big part of the problem.  Though could these developing nations really account for a million sales?? Are there other factors to consider here? Cross-promotional bundling with Bravia TVs? More demo units for retailers? I'm pretty sure these things aren't being tracked either.

Around the Network

Most sellers from Latin America buy PS3s from USA.

Go Sony Go!

EVERY GAMERS WORST NIGHTMARE...THE TANGLING CABLES MONSTER!

       Coffee is for closers!

So, I over-estimated Wii and 360, but under-estimated PS3. I'm rubbish at the whole prediction game; glad I don't pretend to do it for a living. Anyway, kinda stunned at the PS3 numbers -- far higher than I gave Sony any credit for. It's all kinda close in the HD console market just now, which makes things far more interesting, and will hopefully give both Microsoft and Sony some serious reasons to improve their machines to entice us in, which can only be good for all of us. Competition ftw.

Also, yes, the Sony shipped versus VGC numbers do look pretty odd for PS2 and PSP, and probably off for PS3 as well. Go figure. I'm sure adjustments will come at some point, be it this week, next month, or next year. After all, if it looks glaringly wrong to my untrained eyes, think how it must look to people more in the know. That said, perhaps there is some arcane reason that I don't understand.

PSP and PS2 have been this way for a looong time, I'm not sure why, think ioi explained ages ago.

With each passing quarter, I'm becoming more and more convinced that younger/smaller markets like Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle-east, and Latin/South America are more crucial to Sony than VGChartz's current tracking capabilities may imply.

PS3 is probably a lock to pass the Xbox 360 in sales by next March. Can't say I'm surprised.

Does anybody remember at E3 2008, when Microsoft stated that they would "outsell the Ps3 this generation"?

Link to that statement: http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/...ps3-worldwide/

"Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worldwide this generation than PlayStation 3," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of Microsoft's Xbox division, during the company's E3 press briefing on Monday.

In addition to its one year availability head start over PS3, Microsoft said the following upcoming games will be more than enough for the Xbox 360 to retain the lead: Gears of War 2, Resident Evil 5, Fable 2, Fallout 3, a two month timed-exclusive for Rock Band 2, and the
newly announced port of Final Fantasy XIII.

Currently, Microsoft has sold an estimated 20 million Xbox 360s worldwide, compared to Sony's 14 million PS3s, and Nintendo's 28 million Wiis.

Yeah, I know, and I've no idea why either. I'm sure there is a reason, as it's a pretty glaring discrepancy. Perhaps ioi can chime in at some point on the issue? Anyone here talk to him much, or are we left waiting for the Finger of God to chance by a thread such as this?

In my country, we get to watch Indian channels...and a shitload of PS Move bundled PS3 ads are aired on Star World....I doubt they would advertise that much if they weren't selling quite a lot of units there.

Just pointing out that there are markets that VGC don't track.

So, does anyone actually have a list of all the countries that Sony distributes PS3's to? I doubt the Middle East, the handful of Asian countries and other smaller consumer countries could pull in that much of a difference.

Oh trust me, sony dominance is big in this area. I even try to convince people to get a 360 sometimes since most just wanna play fifa or PES and its about 100 dollars cheaper. But sony totally dominates here, and i bet it's undertracked in middle east adn africa by around a million minimum
