It's not, but others said LCD was the way to go. :/

From the review you linked:
"The bad: Produces relatively light color of black; grayscale somewhat blue even after adjustment; no dot-by-dot aspect-ratio mode with 1080i sources."
Emphasis added.
This is where the big difference between the technologies lies. Again, black level is king.
EDIT: They even directly state in the review summary that the picture quality "can't compete with the plasma competition".

Bodh,
We got a 42" 1080 p Vizio LCD this summer for about $900 from Costco. The image and color is fantastic. I've read reviews that complained about image quality, but I haven't noticed any problems. Very nice looking tv.

Right, but it's 1080p and 200 dollars cheaper. Does everyone think the extra 200 dollars is worht it? Can I get Naz and kn and goose and several people to chime in here? :o

1080p means virtually nothing at this screen size. I would much rather see you get the 5" smaller plasma screen for $1050. They really do look better, I promise. I've spent a lot of time with both types of televisions using high-definition source materials.

Okay, I'm strongly leaning towards Goose -- does anyone have ANY competing opinions? I noticed a few people suggest LCD TVs.

It probably has the same panel as this TV:

And seems to have been generally well-received:

Based on this and what naznatips said, I say go for it.
