Forums - Gaming - Is this your last Gen?

I just realized something. My son is 4 and he plays video games now so... I can only assume that would grow so I will won't be entirely done with games, But I def need to cut back, I'm not sure how much I spent this gen but it is deff more then I have ever spent on any gen.

It won't be my last gen but I'm definitely going to scale back next gen.

I only plan to buy 1 console, and only if its $300 or less. And I'm only going to buy maybe 3-5 games a year, only the big releases. I've spent way too much money on gaming this gen already. I calculated a while ago that I'd spent somewhere in the $2000's this gen on all my shit (I got some of that back with trade-ins though).

I agree with this.

I have spent at least $4,000-$5,000 this generation between my PS3, 360, Wii, PSP and Wii. My days of multiconsole ownership is over. I will be going with 1 handheld and 1 console next gen. Will wait until PSP2 is unveiled before I bite on 3DS.

Wow that's crazy. I'm with you though, no more being multi console.

Next gen I'll wait at least 6 months after Sony and MS have their consoles out and buy whichever one looks like its doing better and has the best 3rd party support exclusives.

Believe it or not, I am also one of this site's biggest pirates. Shows not to judge a book by it's cover.

I have simultaneously given more to the industry and taken more from this industry than majority on this site.

Haha that's crazy dude. I can't say I've ever pirated a game, just music for me. If every song I've pirated cost $1 on iTunes I've saved a couple grand on music.

It depends. At times I feel like my interest in gaming disappears. Other times I feel games are the only things that entertain me. But it really boils down to my priorites when the next gen starts.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Slaughterhouse Is The Sh*t  .... NOW ........ B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Sometimes I feel like this, except I'm a little older at 28... Most console games I used to love have indeed been discontinued (Streets of Rage, Shining Force, Shen Mue), or taken a direction I don't like much (Final Fantasy XI, XII, XIII, XIV, Diablo III, Virtua Fighter). Still, some games show up that I have interest in and did live to my expectations - such as Tekken 6.

I predict I'll keep focusing more on PC gaming. I've been playing Guild Wars the most. Been anticipating Guild Wars 2, Diablo III (kind of disappointed but still waiting), and Phantasy Star Online 2 (just recently announced by Sega).

Since these are all RPGs and take lots of time, I don't think I'll have lots of time for next gen console gaming either. This generation I got the PS3, this year, and I haven't finished most games I bought for it.

well, I said I wasn't going to buy a console this gen actually because i started feeling the way you are describing and lack of time. (started off as a toddler playing super mario bros. 1 and 3, paperboy, and such). And then came christmas 2009, very late into this gen, I bought a ps3. Now i still don't get hyped about games just like you are saying, and theyre not where I spend all my time like i used to as a kid, but I still do play them.

If the games are good nowadays, I feel it's more about the quality of all the content that's involved in the game or if I actually feel something, it's toward the authenticity in the environment of X game and not so much in the actual fun factor or wtv that's missing as you mentioned. Something is missing, but really I think that something is just in you. (as it is in me lol, i'm not trying to insult you)

I'm 34 and been playing games since Atari around 8 ish. I don't like where games are going too much with the focus on graphics and story rather than gameplay. I have most of my time consumed by family, work, writing  and trying to start a company. I will not be passing on the next generation. However as life goes on I have been spending less time of Video Games and more time on playing games with people. People are far more important.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Heck no!  Unless a drastic change happens in my life I will not completely quit gaming.

Last gen was my last gen. The current generation games in general have just strayed to far from what I enjoy and while there may be a handful of games out there I'd probably enjoy and want to play, there isn't enough on any one console to warrant me buying any of them. Perhaps when the consoles are all very cheap in anotherf 3-4 years I might pick one or two of them up used, maybe not.
