Forums - General - Is there are starved for attention motive behind some posts in off-topic?

I have to wonder about some posts in the off-topic section on here.  It looks like either a person is desperate for attention, looking for a fight, or believes that something in the world is SO off-kilter that they have to post here or things will end up going very wrong.  So, I am wondering, is there a starved for attention mentality that drives people to post things that will produce over a dozen pages of posts in here, all of which are increasingly heated, and don't change a thing?  I speculate some posts must be of the need for attention matter, because I am hard pressed to think people actually believe posting on a website dedicated to videogames, about religion or politics, will change anything.

Debating online may be a bit lame, but it can be amusing. Of course its not going to change anything though - but neither is playing a videogame is it?

it's all in good fun. Don't read to much into it,it's just the net after all. lol

The people on this site seem to be pretty informed.  I visit this site more than any other on the web because I like the people here.  Sometimes, it's just fun to debate things with people you respect rather than your usual circle of idiot friends and family.

Yeah I'm sure that's the case for a lot of them, but I still like reading some of the posts. Some posts are even very informative. It also amuses me to think people use their free time to argue over the internet on a gaming forum. To each his own I guess.

@ OP: How ironic.

And your title doesn't make sense as is.

My only problem is that people take themselves waaaay to seriously.  They act like their opinion/belief is right and everyone else are morons for having different opinions.  Instead of having debates on why they feel they are right, the debate ends up with people telling each other they are wrong.

My friends and I have a wide variety of beliefs when in comes to religion, politics, abortion, etc... and when we debate them it's civil yet heated.  We actually  listen to each other and pay attention to the points each other make.  Our opinons don't necessarily change on a topic but we have a better understanding of their point of view and the reasoning for their beliefs.  It's fun and informative.

yea. i have fun debating oldschoolfool although its been awhile.

the prob is when the debate gets out of hand and it becomes less about the topic and more about nothing

It's interesting to read the opinions of others as long as they don't take it too far.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
