Forums - Microsoft - Kinect only reads your face when sitting?

I have been watching the videos explaing Kinect on XBox Live.  I saw the most recent video on how Kinect recognizes players.  I thought I heard them say that Kinect only reads your face while sitting (as opposed to your whole body while standing).  Anyone who say this video also care to explain what they said and how I may of gotten it wrong?

I haven't seen the video(s) but since you say you "thought" you heard them say, I suggest you just go back and watch them again yourself. This way you can know what is said.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

What toad said.

And then come back and tell us how it works.

Pretty sure it can track your arms/hands as well as your head.

Initially Kinect was having issues tracking players while sitting because it was using the pelvic area as the "base" of the skeletal tracking system, and this area would be indistinguishable by the device while seated.  They have since moved that spot to the upper chest/neck area, so that Kinect can continue tracking a player's upper body in such situations.

It'd be better if it sat on your face while reading?

You are talking about the Kinect developers diaries I imagine. I think what the guy was trying to do was explain how Kinect recognised different people and he said when seated Kinect will try and recognise you face as some of the other markers it would of used are no longer available such as body type and height.

Yes, the developer diaries.  I could go back and watch, but stand a chance of being confused again here.  That was a secondary meaning I was thinking was being talked about, but felt like asking to make sure.  The "reading" has to do with player identification rather than anything else.  Ok, that makes sense.  I do appreciate the reply here, and confirming.  Some people got WAY too defensive here.  Kinect is what it is.  Asking a legitimate question shouldn't cause fanboy panic responses i have seen here.

To be blunt, the responses in the Sony forum on here, asking about a delay with Gran Turismo 5 happened to get a much more civil response folks.

He's talking about recognition for the auto sign in and being able to tell which person is playing so as to use the right avatar.  Not motion tracking.

That's how I read it at first.

Kinect wants us to sit so it can look down our shirts and see our boobs.
