Forums - Sales - US$, Aussie$, Yen and PS3: a huge rip off for Aussies or what?

I've no idea what he figures are and I can't be arsed to look it up either but is there a big difference in import tax that you haven't taken into account?

Just speculating here.

You wuz robbed.  I had no idea it was that bad.  Canada has weathed the recession better than the States as well.  Likewise our 'loonie' was above par with the USD for about 15 minutes a week ago.  Unlike Aus. we get basically the same prices if the dollars are close.  The retailers add $10 to games when the exchange hits some arbitrary level but they've gotten a lot of complaints and there is competition from Wallymart, Future Shop, etc. and online retailers don't add much to deliver here. Distribution costs would be similar to the BIG market but that doesn't explain a tenth of the difference.  Fuel costs would actually be less from Japan or China anyway.  We're lucky to have a border with Uncle $am.  Illegal handguns are cheaper too.

Hope this turns around but right now Aus. is taking it on the chin.  If there isn't a massive import duty that's an absolute rip.  You wonder if the pols or those blokeheads from the 'Classification Board' have influence on retail.  The old guard seem particularly anti-gaming down there so you're complaining to the hearing-impaired.
