Forums - Sony - PS3 can have 7 controllers connected at once?

so do i....  maybe its because of the controller led indicators, because there are only 4 leds it would be impossible to indicate the 8th controller, i thought they could have just have the fourth indicator blinking when an eighth controller is connected but people might mistake it for the controller needing charging..... thats my theory

Why not 8?

Nothing angers me more than odd numbers.

I think its stuck at 7 due to Bluetooth technology at the time.

Afaik, if there were 8 or more the connection became unstable and couldn't be used properly.

Although I could be wrong.

This limitation sounds strange because it seems that the Wii can actually have 8 controls synchronized at the same time (Just Dance 2 has local multiplayer mode for 8 people). I wonder how Nintendo is doing it.

It's not controller or PS3 limitation... it's BLUETOOTH LIMITATION.

Wii use Bluetooth with a custom protocol created by Nintendo... Sony use the standard one which is limited to 7 simultaneous connections.

Bluethooth on cellphones, notebooks or others devices had the same limitation (7 simultaneous connections).

And Xbox 360 uses Wi-Fi (812.11) protocol (not  bluetooth)... so no limitation for Wi-Fi (812.11).

There's four lights though and we know they can have all of them light up simotaneously. If the hardware was there at the time I the lights wouldn't stop SONY for having up to ten players. lights on. 4 3 2 1 lights on equals the tenth players.

that actually makes sense... i never thought of it that way

it stil seems point less to have up to seven controllers without a game to fully utilize it

Bomberman Ultra's the only game with 7 players locally I think. You can also have another player over the internet for the total of 8 in one game. Other than that, there's just some sports game mentioned above that let you have 6 players in a game.

I'm surprised there weren't any "FF7 REMAKE CONFIRMED!!!" posts in this thread O_O'

PixelJunk Racers is another game that has support for up to 7 players locally.
