Forums - Nintendo - How would you freshen up a Nintendo franchise for the next gen?

I never said it bothers me anywhere.  You seem to think I want to drastically change the gameplay or something, but that's not really the case here. I'm going to venture a guess that Majora's Mask and Wind Waker aren't up there on your Zelda list right? Zelda is about traveling through a fairly large world gathering items to complete dungeons with the goal of saving the world from evil generally.

I would still very much want to preserve that type of game however I want to see some new locales. Is Super Mario Galaxy not a Mario game because it takes place in space? It's definitely a personal preference and while I don't think I'm alone I am also probably not in the majority. Also, I said firearms not guns :) Things like netguns and steam cannons could be interesting items for Zelda games. Nintendo wouldn't put traditional guns in their games and I wouldn't expect them to either.

Edit: BTW nice avatar. Such a good movie.

Nah I loved Majora's Mask, it's amoung my favourites (but I don't see how it has anything to do with your ideas, it's nothing like it) and I hated Wind Waker because it didn't have enough dongeons, boring quests (I'm looking at you, Triforce >_>) and salling was such a chore. (Also, while I loved the cel shading, I didn't like the character designs but that has nothing to do of why I don't like the game).

Well let's just agree to disagree and I'll leave it at that, and thanks, it's my favourite anime movie, so epic!

make a new one

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not, but I never quite get this 'Nintendo never makes any new franchises, or doesn't make enough' thing that gets thrown around.  IMO, Nintendo should make less new IPs and focus more attention and marketing on each one.

Nintendo's 1st parties have brought us new IPs this gen such as: Nintendogs, Soma Bringer, Wii..., Xenoblade, Disaster,  Big Brain Acadamy, Eco Shooter, That walking device thingy, Cooking guide and probably some more I've forgotten.

Nintendo have also published and helped with many more games such as Endless Ocean, Bonsai Barber, Rooms, ASH, Hotel Dusk/Last Window, Captain Rainbow, Zangeki no Reinglev, Marionation Gear, Lonpos, etc.

well before any mod thinks i'm trolling i should clear this up.

wht i want them to do is dig into the largest catalog in the history of gaming and make something big happen. something new from the house that Mario built would be refreshing, but not more so then a Starfox  or something gamers keep asking for but Nintendo continues to refuse us so if Shigeru Miyamoto won't make something old new? he should make a new legend.

You know, I pretty much agree with you.  Nintendo should make a high profile, so called 'core' 1st party new IP.  The Last Story is probably the closest thing we've going to get this generation.  Last gen had Pikmin and the 5th gen had Pokemon, Smash Bros and to a lesser degree 1080.  Nintendo have quite a few new IPs, just not many are as high profile as the likes of Uncharted, LBP, etc.  Like I said at the beginning of my original post, IMO Nintendo should actually make the same number or less new IPs, and focus more on marketing them.  I just get a bit annoyed at the people who claim Nintendo doesn't make any new IPs, despite loads being released this gen.

PS.  I love love to see Nintendo's take on a sandbox game.  To me it see the entire genre is fixated around organised crime, perhaps they could make one that isn't.

3D, cutscenes, maternal instinct, bonus free true footage of Malstrom being hospitalized for apopleptyc stroke and a free bucket of his froth...

YEA MARIO IN A SANDBOX GAME AS THE BAD GUY WITH A GUN LOL?

i agree with your original post. and people have ignored the fact Nintendo has made new ip's this gen but the problem is as u stated is that they haven't made a core ip. then again i'd be happy with a new starfox, or atlest a remake of the 64 version? good times good times!

I would gladly accept a Kojima produced Zelda if only to see Malstrom invent new facial expressions.

I'd make another story-heavy Metroid game with more polish, more music, more power-ups, less authorising. And Samus should talk.

LOL. Jokes apart, I must admit that I quite liked the few things I saw about how Ninty is going to refresh Donkey Kong.

1. Pokemon should be the first game to use augmented reality with 3DS. Each game is bundled with a deck of Pokemon cards that have AR symbols on them.

2. Mario should have a game that uses the same format as Obstacle Course in Wii Fit Plus.

4. The next Wii Sports should have online play. New Sport suggestion: Paintball across the entirety of Wuhu island.

5. Top-Down classic Zelda on the Wii. No puzzles. Mimics the first game as much as possible.

6. 2d sidescrolling Metroid on the Wii. No cutscenes. Mimics the first game as much as possible.

7. Mario vs. Donkey Kong should gather all the mini-marios into a big pile to be burned and go back to what we saw in the first game.

I want a Zelda RTS game about the 7 yrs when Link is gone showing how the People of hyrule fell to Ganondorf.

You can play the leader of the Hyrulian army... or as Impa until she becomes a spirit either or is fine and you control the events before OOT showing the war Links parents were in which killed them, the events leading to the fall of hyrule  the 7 yrs and after Ganon is sealed away how they rebuilt Hyrule becuase there has to be some monster still hanging around hyrule under someones rule who was under Ganondorf (his long lost son... or daughter maybe)

I love you so much for showing me this, you beautiful bastard.

I reeeaaaaaally hope Nintendo hasn't *completely* scrapped this idea.  A Zelda in the future with some FF7 inspiration?  *faints*
