Forums - Gaming - Console FPS tactics, what is cheap?

On Asylum on Halo: Reach, if a sniper knows what he's doing, he can jetpack up to the highest point in the map and have a free reign at sniping, overlook almost all the entire map, and camp all day long. Jetpacking up isn't a solution because an experienced person will hear you and snipe you out of the sky. It's freaking stupid, and Bungie should've put a time limit like they do on other high points as to how long you can stay up there.

That being said, what annoys me more is in the objective games where people play for their ratio more than taking/defending the objective. Just today I'm playing invasion on defense and half the team doesn't even make an attempt to defend one of the two objectives, but I completely blame the stupid K/D ratio that people are so obsessed over. My K/D in that game is terrible because I play a lot of objective where I'm trying to move the flag/reset the bomb/control the territory.

ok this is right up my alley, as a hardcore fps fan, this generation has taken cheap gameplay and made it standard.

cheap game play tactics are tactics that give a unfair advantage to a player. now to me I can only name 2 TACTICS  as cheap, and that's camping and spamming.

camping gives and unfair advantage of readiness to the camping player over others and that's cheap.

spamming takes an powerful object within the game and overuse it, this varies based on games. it's cheap, rockets in halo.....everything mw2,

why is camping and spamming cheap, when you have the ability to do the samething back. I disagree with that part of your post. The only cheap tatic in a FPS game is when someone finds a glitch and uses that to there advantage. Something like that, there's really no way to conter act that. FPS is my favorite genre and I've played just about everyone, just so you know.

just because everyone can use it doesn't make it not cheap, that's  noobs logic

and it's cheap because it takes no skill. Being out in the battlefield killing enemies takes skill, pitching a fucking tent and chucking grenades takes no skill, and if that's the only way you can get a kill and be effective, your a noob

and I bet out of all the fps you've played your only good a COD amirite

How is that noob logic. Anything you can counter act, just is'nt cheap in my mind. In most FPS that I play,I would say that I'm just a middle of the road player.

it's noobs logic because it takes no skill, that's the key there !!SKILL!! or lack there of.

sure I can counter act it, I love killing camping pieces of s**t in MW2 but that doesn't make them NOT noobs.

it's like the Geneva convention of fps, and if you true about playing almost all fps you should know this. sure I can camp and I'd be damn good at it, but I never do it just out of general principle.

I don't think there's general principles when it comes to games. I personally think that it does'nt matter if it takes no skills,it's about doing what you can(short of glitching)to get the advantage,it's just a game after all. Sometimes I spam, sometimes I camp and sometimes I go at it rambo style. Most of the time I'm at the middle of the pack. It does'nt bother me that I'm not the best player,It's all about the fun factor to me,that's why I love FPS. Don't get offended, but that's just my mentality.

And do it with an open mind.

Anyway, I don't think that it matters that there are "cheap" tactics in console shooters since most of them are casual games with auto-aim, gaining skills/waepons on "leveling up" and other bullshit that has nothing to do with competitive gaming.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

anything that gives you an advantage in a game is not cheap. That is how the game is played.

Regarding something as cheap is simply because you have made up your own rules as to how the game is supposed to be played.

Like in counterstrike with the auto-shottie. It's not my fault people have learned to play a certain way which is victim to the auto-shottie. You want to be good, then you have to understand all possible weaknesses, or take advantage of people who don't.

simple as that.

Hmmm, my definition of "cheap" would be something like "requiring little skill to obtain easy kills".  Not a perfect definition, I'm sure, but I would classify Noob-Tubers and Campers as "cheap".

I don't think that staying basically motionless in one place waiting to shoot someone or using only tubes to kill people takes a lot of skill.  But that is ALL I would argue, I don't HATE campers or noob-tubers; I don't deride them in the lobby's after a match...if that's the only way someone can find enjoyment in the game, then who am I to tell them they can't/shouldn't do it?

That being said, when playing a whole TEAM like that, win or lose I would likely just leave the lobby, because it just gets old pretty quick.

I liked the article and I agree with it for the most part, thanks for sharing.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
