Well if you count wrestling games... the N64 had some of the best 4-player wrestling games ever:
WWF No Mercy, WWF War Zone, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WCW/NWO Revenge

Powerstone 2 was one ofthe best fighting games I ever played; better than super smash bros personally.

You win just for that.
Def Jam fight for New York on the PS2, one of the best fighters ever, i still play it when the guys come over. Plus my little sisters loved it, easy to get into and one of the best fighting engines around. You can't beat a shovel to the face.

do there other fighting games than smash exist???

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Geez.
Guilty Gear Isuka is good except for the button to turn around that you have to use, and it's not an option. You can do 4-player matches in that. There's a baclground to fight in so you can have either 2 seperate matches at once or try to double team someone or I believe do a 4-player FFA.
Guilty Gear X2 (Accent Core being the newest for PS2) is my favorite fighter but I couldn't stand that turn-around button.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I don't have a Dreamcast, but that Powerstone game looks really fun. I forgot about Def Jam Fight for NY. I own that on Gamecube, and yes, it is truly fun. I agree that there aren't any better fighting games than SSB. It's so fun.
