Forums - Gaming - What Makes Xbox live worth it?

@ SpartenOmega117

For the simple fact that you REFUSE to see anything else but one feature to differentiate XBL and PSN, and justify XBL's cost; despite having the many lists shown to you by different ones in this thread (including a very detailed list by d21lewis) in my opinion you've made up your mind, and this thread was pointless to begin with. No more replies needed, at least none from me.

Im not saying that xbox live doesn't have many features that differentciate itself with PSN. Im just saying that on a gaming level, where you go online just to play games with friends, then xbox live is pretty much the same as PSN.

You cant browse the interwebz on XBL. No porn surfing for you!

You make a very good point.........

I know!

What would I do without http://ps3.brazzers.com

Without brazzers?  Probably go to spankwire, tube8, porntube, moviefap, youporn.........not that I know anything about that sort of thing!!  But if one wanted to browse such sites without their girlfriend seeing their browsing history well, I guess a PS3 would be a viable option.

Yeah but HD porno > SD porno

I NEVER HEARD OF THOSE SITES YOU MENTIONED ABOVE!! (xDDD) [xvideos is also good LOL]

$80 a year for something I'm getting free on another system isn't worth it. Three quarters of the features Live has are pretty much useless to me and everything else it does have works just as well on my other system. Got a Gold account for free when I first bought my 360, it lasted 30 days and I only ever got on a few times and then never used it again. Not because the system was flawed, but because of how mediocre the whole experience was after all the praise people throw on it. The best thing Microsoft ever did was throw in a headset with every console, that's the biggest advantage Live has over it's competitors. I just don't see how anyone can look at two AAA titles that they could buy and then look at Live (while owning a PS3 or PC) and then choose Live, but people obviously do.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Could Gold membership be one of the reasons why some people mod their console?

Well if I don't have Live I can't play online with my friends or any game at all, so XBox is pretty pointless to me without Live. Also the original XBox had Live support for many, many years when Sony/Nintendo usually take down servers a lot faster.

Anyways topics like these have been beaten to death, why bring it up again?

well i find that funny when original xbox live was disconnected and Sony is still running its PS2 services such as Socom 1 which was released 9 years ago.

Xbox live is a rip

Sony has Microsoft by the balls because now PSN is the same and can be even better than Live and its free. SCE is a strong believer in dedicated Severs and Live hardly has any. Also most dedicated severs are own by the publisher or Devoloper again rendering Live's payment point less.

Xbox fanboys you have been Fooled. You are paying for Nothing. You are paying to communicate with your friends. Well guess what Microsoft gives that out for free with MSN. You are paying for a Friends list again is offered free by MS. Party chat, again MSN. You are paying to have free stuff run on your xbox.

face it Live must cease payments with the next system or PSN will murder the next live because my then PSN will still be free with majority of lives features free with optional pay plans for other features. Dont think Sony is going to introduce payments for PSN because of PSN , thats there big marketing push to draw in people from xbox

Socom is a exception to the rule - go and try to play all those PS2 games you have that are online enabled and you'll see a majority of them have their servers gone. XBox had every single online game up for 7 years with the exception of a half dozen that were pulled by their developers (Capcom: Steel Battalian, and Sega: Phantasy Star Online) you can't top that. Sony has been taking down servers every year and I believe Socom is still up because some countries are just now getting PS2s, as Sony is expanding its global reach.

Honestly towards the end it was not worth keeping the original XBox servers up if you looked at the stats - The most played game was Halo 2 and it had just over 1k people playing it, everything else was a user here and there nothing else came close. I went back to some of the games before they shut down and 99% of the games had no one playing them. I wish MS kept up the DLC for games but they would just be bleeding money from all the free downloads. Seven years is a damn good run for old games that no one really cared about. Basically XBox 1 Live was still up to tide people over till more and better 360 games came out and they were able to buy 360s. Once the 360 was out just over a year it had enough games to switch over to.

Calling people Fanboys is not going to help your arguement either and It's rather inmature.

It's just that simple.

They dont throw a headset in every console. In fact I think those are opnly special bundles. Live doesn't cost $80 either

You know, most people have computers that can do what live does better for free. consoles are for gaming, like hell if I'm going to watch that crap ass encoded Netflix for money or use Last.FM when Shoutcast is a better way to go (there is an app for that too, <3 smart phones, I use Shoutcast on the road as my primary music source.)

Those live features can be done in a simple web browser and there is nothing like dev IRC sessions or simply go straight to their forums. You don't even need a gaming machine to do all those and who the hell has internet and no computer? Nobody gets internet just for a console or 2 unless the person is obsolutely retarded.

Live has xchat which is really why it's better than PSN, it's definitely not worth the 50-60 bucks you pay a year, and on the flip side, no xchat on PSN but you don't have to pay a dime to play games online, which is actually a much better value than xchat for that amount of money.

I have consoles for games, games, GAMES! It's a no shit that the PS3 is a better value when it comes to pure gaming. Not to mention that the supreme VoIP app right now is Mumble, nothing on consoles can even touch that thing, no other VoIP in the world is better than Mumble for gaming atm, and that's free too.
