Soo...we should let them go on a killing spree, right? There've been cases where people who were released from prison continued their murderous practices. As for being locked up for life, laws are fickle. Who knows what changes could take place?

In point of fact, repeat offenses for released murderers aren't really any higher in countries that don't have the death penalty. That reasoning doesn't work.

I'd take them spending their whole lives in jail, over killing them. Plus, honestly, I think I'd go crazy in a jail cell for the rest of my life. Death would seem like a better punishment.

Except that revenge doesn't serve anyone, even without the background of scripture. Milton's words still ring true; revenge does not help, only serving to make ragged fresh wounds. |
It doesn't? Let Milton speak for himself. Revenge works for me.
Revenge is a human right.

You have to qualify how revenge works.
No, revenge isn't a right.

Are you telling me crime rates in various countries are dependent on the same variables? Are you telling me that crime rates don't naturally vary based on country?
The only way to determine the effeciency of murder deterrence is by looking at how crime rates were affected after an abolishment of capital punishment, NOT by comparing countries, and history shows (in the US) that murders have skyrocketed. Not only that, but look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_McDuff
Now if he had been executed right off the bat...13 lives could've been saved.

I understand what you're saying, and I could support that theory, but as I said, laws are fickle. They can change with the times. How can you guarrantee the life without parole sentence will stick?

You gotta draw the line somewhere. It's a risk I'm willing to take.

All right, if that's how you feel.
We'll just have to agree to disagree.
