Kojima slams Western-style level design

Hideo Kojima, legendary game creator and industry voice, recently tweeted about his feelings towards the disparity between Japanese level design and Western level design. And it wasn't pretty.

Here's what he had to say:

"The differences between the creators in Japan and the West in this industry... Japanese creators try to express the game's environment through beautiful artwork, but western developers use technology to draw out the environment. The Japanese make the models and textures carefully to create a world. The West use shaders, lighting, shadows, effects, and programming to create their world."

It's not a direct attack, but Kojima shows a clear disdain for Western-style development. Japanese is "careful" and "beautiful", whereas Western is just "technology" and "programming". But isn't that what everyone uses?

Kojima has stoked the fire.Dissenters are sure to be a-plenty.

What do you think about? I think it's somewhat true but with some exceptions... b bu but Kojima is the best (IMO) so...

I AGREE WITH KOJIMA.

I dont care what is past accomplishments are,  he is wrong on this one.

So there is atleast one Japanese developer who won't jump on the Westernise Train.

GO Kojima!!!

MGS4 for me is not a technical excellence but in terms of art style is one of the best of this generation.

In this case I respect Kojima.

Is this the same Kojima who was worked into such a tizzy after visiting Infinity Ward during the development of MW2 that just couldn't wait to start on his next large scale PS3 project? Only to ditch that project for another secret project, which he promptly ditched for yet another secret project...

I guess the major difference between Japanese and Western devs is that Western devs finish projects rather than posting their lunch on Twitter.

can't we have both,lucky us

It´s not an attack:

"For my next project, I'm going to mention to the staff to throw out the old ways of production. Do not create pretty images, create a beautiful world. Designers shouldn't focus only on their part, but also borrow the programmer's strength to maximize the quality. We shouldn't measure quality by parts, we will measure by the quality and completion of the entire world "

Yeah, GamerNode just took a portion of an interview out of context to create a troll article.  They didn't even link to the original source, so nobody reading their post would know.

Fail Thread and flamebait one!

(not the OP's i mean't the source)

I live for the burn...and the sting of pleasure...
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun...

- Wasteland - The Mission.

Sure is taking things out of context. Kojima gives the pros and cons of west and east development and says that he wants to create a game using the best of both.
