Is there a better search engine than Google?

I like Google Instant 40 60.61%

I hate Google Instant 20 30.30%

Not Sure 6 9.09%

Total:66

Well since Google Instant came out I have been wondering if there is something better.  I finally made my homepage http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en which disables autocomplete and the instant.  I tried disabling it in my profile but it didn't work.  I read on forums (Google forums about Google Instant sucking) that you have to delete your cookies, etc then turn it off but I am pretty sure I did this multiple times.  They should have made it an option not a forced option that apparently is hard to even disable.  To me Google Instant is annoying as hell.  Why someone would want a bunch of random things flashing in front of them goes beyond me.  The whole flashing part bothers me the most (most the time I type so fast it didn't flash too much but whenever it did I was extremely pissed).  I read on some articles that if you try to type Google Instant sucks with instant on that it stops giving suggestions right when you start typing the word suck in.  I am semi satisfied with Google again now that I have it disabled but I was still wanting to try something different.  I heard Bing was alright by some and that it sucks by others.

I made a poll about Google Instant.  I know it doesn't follow the title but I wanted to know how people thought about Google Instant.  I saw in some "polls" that most people liked it but about 20-30% of users didn't.  So Google went from almost all people liking their site to 20-30% users not liking it.  This feature should have been optional.  Now they have pissed off a decent amount of their users.  Bad business move in my opinion.

Anyone recommend another search engine?

Well yahoo's search engine sucks, bing is actually decent some of my teachers talk about it, maybe you wanna try it for a while?

But overall Google is the best I've used and still is currently IMO...

I was going to ask what the hell google instant was, but figured it out (currently not standard on google.co.uk without a google account)

I can see it as being useful for complicated searches where you are not entirely sure what to type to get the best results, but otherwise don't see the point.

I tried to search for a better engine on Google.  Google says no.

Try www.elgoog.com

It's the total opposite of Google, so if you are not into it you should try this.

I had a feeling Google would say that.  I was just too afraid of repercussions to type it in.

I think Google Instant is somewhat of a neat idea, but not too much more helpful than a regular search, even a little distracting.  I've been using bing lately and I prefer it over google.

I love google, but I HATE instant. So annoying. I turned it off immediately.

Like really how much time does it really save not making you hit "enter", but its annoying because shit starts to load before you're done typing.
