Forums - Nintendo - Mark Rein: 3DS is below our specs

hsrob said:

So, a company that has shown no interest in supporting Nintendo systems for years continues to show no interest in supporting Nintendo systems while pretty much every other developer worth a damn is jumping on board.

I quite possibly couldn't care less and even if I could care less it wouldn't be by much.

It's not showing lack of interest. It's the line that they don't know the specs, but think the system can't run their games anyway.

What's the problem with an educated guess? He did say it was not an official statement or anything.

I mean, I can see the irony and all that, but no need to blow this.

if iphone > 3ds

what about the samsung galaxy s with all the gfx tests shown online

samsung galaxy s > iphone > 3ds.

Fail on those calling fail...

Seriously people, grow up.

If you call fail, you are fail and that is all there is to it. Mark Rein has a hell of a lot more credibility than any of you.

This comment has been ignored for some strange reason.

I think I will quote you, just incase people miss it the first time

Reasons aren't strange.

People are still in denial that Nintendo did it again. And will be releasing machine that isn't even near current standards while charging hefty price tag on it. And what worse they will be selling this machine for next 6-7 years.

Sadly the more i learn about 3DS the less i want it.

I really don't care about western developers regarding portable consoles.

Nintendo did it again? Not inflating their specs is treated like a bad thing?

Plus so many other developers have gushed about the system being something they have been asking for from Nintendo, and this is supposed to not be near current standards?

Plus are you forgetting that handheld standards right now are only from a machine costing even more than the 3DS will?

Everything else can be managed with little problems, but too little main RAM could create problems, or at least additional work that otherwise could have been avoided, porting the most complex games from other platforms. 3DS is a portable that's already making hardcore gamers drool, they could become an important part of its market like for PS3 and XB360, small RAM is an error that must not be committed. Unless Nintendo planned from the start to rely almost exclusively on 1st party, 3rd party exclusives and DS back compatibility, totally snubbing multiplats.

He's judging the 3DS when he hasn't even know the specs of it? What a douche. It's not like Nintendo even wants that crappy game on the 3DS anyway.

Of course this article is going to get blown out of proportions. He's going to be seen as a douchebag in every gaming forum now. Gosh, why does Nintendo have so many haters?!

I'm guessing he's judging it by the specs IGN posted on their site. Those specs haven't even been confirmed yet. they could be fake for all we know. No one in this earth knows the 3DS specs other than Nintendo.

What does he mean a "game" that looks like Epic Citadel? They haven't done a game that looks like that on iphone either, just a tech demo of an area with nothing in it. No game logic, no characters or animations going on. There have been some quite impressive tech demos on 3DS too, but neither are representative of actual games on either platform.

And neither are the specs on iPhone, because it has to run much more than the game at any time, while 3DS will have a very minimal OS. Also, here an iPhone 4 costs nearly €600 (without contract), more than twice what 3DS will likely cost. Of course, it does other things too, but it's obvious the iPhone has more room for expensive hardware than 3DS does.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Epic is below Nintendo' minimum specifications. CONFIRMED.
