Forums - Microsoft - What could Fable 3 do better? (Discussion thread for the Fable enthusiast)

So I'm playing the first Fable: The Lost Chapters (PC)  again (played it years ago on my uncles Xbox) and I've been thinking about what I want from another Fable. My biggest gripes with the Fable world is that it's not big enough, Fable 2 expanded compared to the first one, but I'm hoping the second game really takes a shot at taking exploration to a whole new level. I get annoyed by linear path ways through forests and it also didn't help that the gold trail made the world feel smaller because it takes a little bit of that exploration out of it.

The second thing I want in the game is a better story. The ending to Fable 2 was such a disappointment that it actually hurt my overall view of the game. So many great things had been done to make it better, like better voice acting, twists, better dialogue, more interesting missions and that whole island chapter was fantastic, but then it felt like Lionhead ran out of time and money and had to cut it short.

Those are the two things I want from Fable 3, what else do you think Lionhead could do to improve the game and what's your overall feeling towards the franchise.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I got into the Fable series with Fable 2. I love the series, it has it's ups, it's downs, and like every game it can do better. Here is what I found needs to be improved upon:

1. True, hard Bosses.

The end to Fable 2 was anticlimatic to say the least. Every great game I can name off the top of my head was characterized by memorable boss battles where it is hard on normal and nigh impossible on higher difficulty levels.

2. Detach Physique from Skill Development

The most annoying aspect of Fable 2 was putting 2 points into strength related mechanics to see your character morph into Conan the Steroid Destroyer. Fable 3 should follow the lines of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and make you work-out, eat, or run to change your physique from skinny, fat or muscular.

3. Less Linearity, More Sandbox

One of my gripes with Fable 2 was the linearity eventhough the game did have plenty of side areas. The problem was not a lack of side areas, but a lack of things to do in those side areas once you main quested through them. Having challenges, bandit raids, stopping bandit raids and on would be most welcome.

4. Less Micro, More Macro

I loved the real estate aspect, but I hated having to speed up the days just to outfit my real estate with top notch furniture in order to get the best rental rates. Fable 3 should gloss over this aspect and opt for low income districts, middle income districts, upper income districts, business districts, military districts and tourist districts allowing the player to raze districts and rebuild them as he/she sees fit. Furthermore, I want the ability to change the architecture of each and every building.

5. Good as Evil as Neutral

No matter the alignment a player chooses, he/she should not have a harder time completing the game or making money because they are not "good." Give evil players unique economic aspects such as slave trading, building an economy that sells illegal contraband, and more rewards for engaging in a scorched earth military strategy. Likewise, up the rewards for good players for building a cultural mecca, attracting tourists, and converting enemy civilians and armies as opposed to wiping them all out. For neutral players, reward them for satisfying competing political demands in a manner that is hospitable to both parties, reward them for personal "fame" exploits that take time away from the throne, and reward them for conquering armies and decimating populations allowing your citizens to colonize conquered kingdoms.

Just my wants, it will be interesting to see what Molyneux did this time around.

I just want a better ending/boss fight; Jack of Blades was a badass.

I heard one of the designers say areas are now two or three times larger than they were in Fable II. Did you watch dev diary #3 doobie? It's all about the cast and gives you a few snippets that look like they're focusing on the story.

No I haven't, if you can post a link I'd greatly appreciate it.

People either don't like Fable or they think it's perfect, because this thread is not attracting anyone =/

I've tried starting threads on Fable here, but it's usually just me, starcraft, and jadedx talking to ourselves, which is pretty amazing for a game who's predecessor is nearing four million in sales. Anyway, lemme know your impressions of that video!

im pretty sure you could turn the gold trail off in the options.

I too would appreciate some expansion of the exploratory side of Fable in the third iteration.  However, I do not want the game to be as open and free as something like Oblivion or even Dragon Age.  You can turn the gold trail off in the second game, though I agree that if it is there to use I will probably use it, which may not be a good thing.

I completel disagree with you on the matter of Fable 2's ending.  I loved it, it was revolutionary.  I had NO idea it was coming.  To that end I can't tell you what I want from Fable 3's ending, other than to be surprised again.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I would like a little more depth and difficulty in the combat, but only if it can be done without sacrificing the atmosphere of a Fable game with all its quirky humor...

When compared to other RPGs, I found the combat in Fable 2 to be pretty good, the countering made it tactical. The magic system has got to change though, I barely use magic because of how clumsy it is.
