Forums - Sales - Inafune: Lost Planet 2 underperforms

He didn't gave any number, but seems like he still has faith on this franchise.

It's fair to say Lost Planet 2 wasn't a critical darling and Capcom has said it "substantially" underperformed the company's projections at retail. So will we see a third game in the series?

"I came up with the concept for the original Lost Planet and got involved quite a bit," Inafune told the latest issue of Edge. "However, regrettably, Lost Planet 2 was done by someone else and I didn't really have any direct involvement. I still believe in the franchise, and if we do more with it I will definitely get involved directly."

Inafune went on to imply the Lost Planet 2's creators lacked love for the project, which he sees as fundamental to any franchise's ongoing success. The key to a successful sequel is "very simple", he said.

"If a particular franchise or IP is continued by the creator, there is no problem. But in a large organisation that's not possible all the time. Therefore if you have to change the director or producer, etc, they would have to love the IP or franchise, including good points and bad points, as a whole. Without love, nothing happens."

Yup, it's the lack of love the reason of why franchises die.

This can only mean one thing. PS360 IZ D00MZEDZ. Seriously though, I have no idea why it sold so mediocrish. Dead Rising 2 looks set to sell worse.

This is my sig.

I didn't have the notion that the game was a flop.

It sold about a million - probably at reduced profit for half that number. For a big and advertised HD-game that probably doesn't cover costs.

If i remember correctly, they wanted it to sell like 3 to 4 million.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Good , the game was horrible and a huge disappointment after the , quite good , first game. Too bad about the amazing graphics (at least on the 360 version) .

Lost Planet 2 sold 510k on PS3 and 440k on 360. These numbers aren't great, espceially as the first sold 1.84 million on the 360 and 500k on the PS3. I don't think Dead Rising 2 is actually going to do much better.

Yeah obviously DR2 is going to sell poorly, just look at all the Capcom flops on the Wii;)

The mediocre golf game, the rushed 360 down-port, the Gamecube ports, or the subpar brawler? Because there's a reason why they didn't sell.

The games Capcom actually put effort into on Wii actually made money, it seems.

That's what you get for promoting Westernization at all costs.

What does that have to do with Dead Rising 2 flopping??
