Forums - Microsoft - Gears of War 3 delayed to Fall 2011

2011 is stacked as it is...but at least I can buy the other games releasing in that period...still, I want my Gears.

Oh, and it seems SOCOM 4 has the TPS genre covered then for the first half of 2011.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Maybe MS wants to piss of Sony who will most likely release Uncharted 3 around that time (Uncharted being the PS exclusive you would compare gears to). Other then that, there's no real reason to delay a game which will sell well anytime during the year unless the game was incomplete, and only then would it be delayed about a couple of months before, not half a year.

So what does MS have planned for their hardcore userbase for Jan-September? If I only had an XBox I would find this worrisome, especially after MS stated that the reason for this had nothing to do with polishing up or anything, with the only reason being that they want it to be their marquee title next holiday season. The game is ready for a spring release, but instead of giving it to you guys they instead choose to hold it back.

I don't know about all of you, but that tells me that if they didn't delay it you probably wouldn't have had any big exclusive for next holiday season.

Anyone else noticing this?

Microsoft needs to get themselves some more studios.

Their focus has shifted a bit. They're really pushing Kinect and they may REALLY do that between Nov 2010 and the Fall of next year, to really get the message across. They probably have Forza 4 (or PRG5), Gears 3, and maybe Crytek's exclusive for their core fans, and leave the Jan - Sept months to let mutliplats and Kinect do the talking against Sony & Nintendo.

Crytek is still working on Crysis 2 which releases next year. I doubt Codename : Kingdoms is a 2011 release.

Problem with letting Kinect have all the attention during Jan-Sept could be really bad if Kinect doesn't take off, because if the casuals do not buy into it they won't have the hardcore to keep them afloat.

They would have never needed to do it this way if they had more studios. With more studios they would have been able to focus on both.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

That's fine. Theres already a ton of games I'll be buying next year that should be out by April/May

1) The 3DS system and some games

2) Ghost Recon Future Solider

3) Test Drive Unlimited 2

4) Marvel vs Capcom 3

5) RAGE

6) Deus EX Human Revolution (announced for Spring from all the trailers I've seen)

Not sure when Duke Nukem Forever is out, along with my other wants. There is PLENTY out there for AAA multiplats. For exclusives? Probably Kinect titles - Forza Kinnect, Steel Battalian etc.

It's just that simple.

Unless they didn't have another game for 2011 that would help push sales during the holidays, which I believe may be the reason they made this move.

If they keep it as a Spring release and Kinect doesn't take off they wouldn't be able to rely on it for the 2011 holidays. This move is so that if things do not work out with Kinect they could possibly still ride the year out on multiplats and have Gears in the holiday season.

I think it is a smart move, but if I only had a 360 and was lookig forward to Gears 3 I would probably be annoyed since it isn't be delayed for any good reason in a consumers eyes.

In addition to what CGI said Gears is also the more well known franchise and gets more mainstream media coverage due to its heavily publicized launch and "questionably violent" content. Launching it near Uncharted would only benefit Uncharted as these media outlets would mention Uncharted as Gears' closest competition, giving it free advertising.

because 3DS?

It can be one of the big reasons, yes sir.

And on a note apart, this is what will happen to Zelda Skyward Sword folks.

The game's not launching on spring 2011... I bet my chicken here.

Can't say I wouldn't do the same, April's too close to 3DS's launch and it's all anyone will be talking about when it comes out. But now who will Killzone 3 compete with?
