Remember that the Flintstones were on ABC's primetime, and it was the 60s, the majority of the world didn't know that cigarettes were pure poison, the average consumption in the US was above 4000 per person per year, 50% of men and 33% of women smoked more than 100 cigarettes a year, it was the prime of the tobacco industry... So it wasn't weird for adults watching those commercials back then, besides, the first 2 seasons of the Flintstones were more like The Honeymooners... By the 3rd season with Pebble's birth they became a more family-oriented show and the sponsor changed to Welch's
