Forums - Sony - PS3's first year almost the same as 360's first year

Every one relax. PS3 is still selling at a much higher price then the 360. Also none of the major titles have yet been release for the PS3 such as

1.Gran Turismo 5.Kingdom Hearts
2.GTA V 6.God of War
3.Final Fantasy 7.Devil May Cry 4
4.Metal Gear 4

Sure many argue that a few of these titles will also be released on the 360 but you guys have to understand that the user base of 360 is somewhat different from PS3's. For instance the traditional Xbox owner doesn’t care much for Metal Gear in comparison to a PS owner because they have never played any of the previous games plus their interest of games are different. Many fans will want to play these games on a PS3, so they can experience playing their favorite games with PS3 graphics, plus they many fans are familiar with PS3 controls (This will happen especially in Europe).

Also once the PS3 price is cut to $299 or even $349 360 sales will be affect negatively. Just look at the European sales. Now imagine those sales with one more price cut and the release of FF, and GTA.

In conclusion, I believe next year many people will want to have that exciting feeling of buying a new system, and when they do it will be a PS3 because many will want to play these titles on a familiar system.

Also I am not trying to start any fights. I'm actually a Nintendo and I'm just giving my opinion.

This is where people are stupid. They think that an Xbox owner never had a PS1 or a PS2 and claim their games are sooo much better. Truth is, probably 99% of the Xbox 360 owners today also had a PS2 and didnt care for those games at all. A boost in sales will be similar to Halo 3 at best in which the month of release will get a huge boost and then die quikly. The Halo hype ended in October easily and sales are already below the top 25. No game or 4 games can recover a 8 million deficit.

The PS3 now costs $399 and the X360 costs $349 (with 2 bundled games). That's not "a much higher price".

Well yes, if the PS3 price is cut to $299 then the X360 sales will be affected negatively. But if the X360 price drops to $249 the PS3 sales will be affected even more negatively.

PS3 needed to have a better year than 360's to catch up.  It outsold the 360 worldwide for awhile and is catching back up to about even right now.  As long as the user bases maintain the same distance I don't expect it to be an issue.  Most third party games will be on both systems.

If PS3 catches up in the US, though, the PS3 will have an advantage going forward.  We'll see what happens.

But comparing the first years is pointless now.

The last 10 or so whichever posts made good points lol. The PS3 is not a failure among the 3 consoles, it only didnt do that great when considered to its series, that some people thought it was going to dominate the market entirely. Normally, the PS3 is doing fine, but yes, coming off of a HUGE 200 MILLION console franchise.. Thats where the people can start throwing the word failure around, though for me thats wayy too harsh of a word as the other Playstation series took off only in later years too (just as the 360 has pulled up more in its second year- its a very obvious trend lol ;P and many other consoles are considered 'successful with this kind of position.. so yeah.. failure is just out of the question). And at first before i heard much, Yeah, i thought it was going to dominate. but then i heard all the things it was going to have and i knew it was going to cost more than most expected (and then in other countries.. jeez those poor guys lol), Thats where i kinda backed up a bit, i still thought the PS3 was going to do well, but there was no practical way it could at the cost of price, but im not complaining haha i bought mine at launch still! Personally i think had the PS3 been the one out first though im sure its sales would have been dramatically higher despite the price heh, but then we might not have had a price drop for years and well all know we couldnt live with that.

The PS2 has never sold 200 million, and playstation as a brand has sold closer to 270 mill including PSP and PS3.

Just kiss the tip.

No I understand that Xbox owners may have had a PS1 or PS2 but the majority of those people say 70% enjoyed playing Madden and Medal of Honor titles.  Games such as FF and Metal Gear draw a totally different audience (Im not saying all but).  And for those who like the titles i had listed and own a 360 I believe they will buy a PS3 for a better game experience because they want to play those games with a PS controller or to see the games in the best quality.  Im not bashing 360 at all, because they are doing something right and that is they are building relationships with third parties plus MS is developing more of their own titles. And by the way sales should remain consistent because eventually once PS3 price is cut sales in Europe and Japan should begin to see a great trend, but Im not sure about the US.

I think PS3 will be considered a failure in comparison to the 360 because it will be no where near the sales of PS2 but it should still outsell the 360.

Dude thats with two free games and a cheaper price tag, of course that will be more eye appealing then a system with only a free Blue-ray disk.

Sorry guys i didnt mean to put my own comment in the reply box for those who are confused.

After Stringers words it seems the PS3 is somewhat undertracked in the site .Still ,it will get more sales that the first year of the X360 ,it will hit 10 million sooner and without the heavy hitters and that having in count the massive initial price tag and the delay in the PAL launch .
Not the world-beater Sony was expecting (did they really expect that with a 600 price tag ?) but quite good all the same .

I think the real good news is that the PS3 has done this well without big name titles and despite the large price tag.

Those are/were some pretty big turnoffs, but the system is so good that it's still going strong despite them.
