Forums - Sony - PS3's first year almost the same as 360's first year

So, from the current trends and compared to last gen I see in my crystal ball...

Wii ~ PS2
360 ~ xbox
ps3 ~ gamecube

This is different than I would have said last year. Which was...

Wii > everything else
360 and PS3 > xbox and

@ non sequor

I disagree with your statements. I think, if they could afford it, that price cuts would raise the sales by a ton, but right now they can't afford more price cuts. And if it is next Christmas (next price cut) it will be nowhere near too late like some other guy said.

And to disagree with you further, great games like MGS and FF and KZ will only help sales because they're real games, for real gamers unlike mario who is for kids.

Although i give the wii credit for it's success, its just a gimmick with, IMO, a lame set of games unless your a die hard mario fan or a giant fan of using the gimmick controllers.

PS3 hasnt been selling for a year WW yet.

The PS3 in Others/Europe didnt release until March 07 and so this is it's first Christmas of sales.

But then again, the xbox 360 didnt get it's price slashed, so you could argue it both ways.

they should make a game with titties in it in 1080p...that would sell some systems! haha

It will end this year with better sales that the 360 last year .
Besides ,it launched in Europe end march and not november as the 360 .The sales for those months (including Christmas ) for the PS3 would have put the PS3 way above the 360 sales data .

Sony is doing better than M$ since their price point was a lot higher. The main problem is that PS2 was massive and PS3 isnt also the fact of if Sony follows 360 numbers they will always remain a year behind 360.

Well, it's a 2 faced argument. The 360 would have sold a couple hundred thousand more systems in that first year if they didn't have that massive shortage in the beginning. I remember that finding a 360 was almost impossible in America until March of 2006, and they didn't have nearly enough systems for launch (360s were going for $1500 on Ebay that first Christmas season, I remember seeing that and thinking "damn, I need to scalp me a few PS3s". Good thing I didn't).

If I remember rightly, PS3 had huge production problems due to shortages of blu-ray diodes. That was the reason Europe did not did not see a November '06 launch.

As for it being a 'Good Thing' you didnt buy a PS3...hmm wernt they selling for $10,000 on ebay?

What?? The PS3's first year nearly matched the Xbox 360's second year? That obviously means its selling great!!

That's nice, but it sure as hell wasn't common. I don't know if you're from America, or were here around the time of the PS3 launch, but the shortage was like 2 weeks long. After that, you could find a PS3 fairly easily, whereas the Xbox 360 after launch was damn near impossible to find, and you had to be one lucky SOB to get a Wii. There simply was very little demand for the PS3 post launch, it was not a supply issue in America.

Seriously, Sony was made fun of ALOT over here for trying to say that low sales was because of a lack of supply. Here's one example:

As for the PS3 ebay thing, great, a few dumbasses misread the market. Guess what, PS3 ebay prices fell like a rock very quickly.
