Forums - Sony - PS3's first year almost the same as 360's first year

360 had no competition (unless you count the 8 year old ps2), and now the ps3 has to deal with the cheaper 360 with many great games out, and the very inexpensive (gimmick) the nintendo wii, and sony didn't have many games to start with either, so it's pretty impressive if you ask me.

On a related note, I found it pretty impressive that the three week old remains of a tuna salad sandwich in the fridge didn't mutate, grow legs, and eat the neighbor's cat.

Actually, on second thought that was probably an unrelated note... but it was still impressive.

Halo 3 sales are pretty lame in only week 10 concidering Motorstorm outsold it by about 20,000 in it's 55th week! lol Halo 3 = Great start, no legs

Microsoft needs some new material like gears of war was concidering since halo 1, sales of halo 2 and 3 have declined, although mind you it's not done selling yet (halo 3).

360 should make a game with naked chicks, that would sell a couple million.

Wow, you don't do too much research do you. Halo 2 outsold Halo 1 by like 2 million. And news flash, Motorstorm is selling almost entirely from bundles. Halo 3 has no bundles in the US.

in January ps3 will hit 10 mil!

For those suggesting the 360 had no competion in it's first year, you are only correct if you are referring to 'next-gen' competition.

It still had however:

PS2 competition: This thing is still competition now. Back when the 360 came out, anyone wanting a console had the option of the 360 or PS2. The PS2 was cheaper and had a huge range of games. Don't rule out the fact that it is old tech when the parents are deciding if it is worth spending 2x extra for 'something that plays games'

Hype competition: The Wii and PS3, while a year away, were *only* a year away. Many people won't buy a console until they see what the competition has to offer. Don't underestimate the power of product hype.

@ white devil

haha i do, do too much research, i have nothing better to do. And your right about halo 2, i mixed them up i guess. nevermind. Well at least the fact that motorstorm outsold halo 3 is still true, and its not all bundles, the 80 gig is the one bundled with motorstorm and its not selling that well, its the 40 gig thats helping ps3's sales.

@ Diabloz

I love your enthusiasm but that would mean it has to sell over 500,000 a week, which would be F****** awesome, but i hate to say it, unlikely. Maaaayyybe by the end of February if it sells over 300,000 a week.

@ Katalinan

I don't believe in the "hype competition" but your right about the ps2 though, its still outselling the 360 in europe! p.s. the only thing low tech about the ps2 is the lack of high def and a hard drive maybe, but other than that, it plays the same disks as 360. compared to ps3 its low tech because of its lack of blu ray as well.
