Is gaming in Japan really that much more expensive than in America? If the system launches for 299 in America would you buy it? If it launches for 249 and the PSP2 does the same which will you buy?

This depends on the PSP2's features. If it was fully backwards compatable, touch screen enabled , At least as powerful as the 360. Cheaper software then the origional, NetFlix enabled. Then I would buy it at launch for 300$. But fact is Sony is just known for subpar quality when it comes to their products, it would take alot of features like those listed above to get me to purchase a PSP2.

The quality of Sonys products are not bad imo. Just the price, seriously everything from Sony costs more than it should. Both electronics and consoles, the current PS3 price is the exception and its probably because they are still last.

My friends who bought PSP's at launch all had dead pixels and one had to return his twice. Then Adam Sessler imported one from Japan and the buttons were partially in the screen. I heard about  constant problems for about half a year. I ended up buying mine in 2008 after all the glitches were worked out.

It seems that with Sony products you need to wait a year or two for all the bugs to be worked out.

PSP was their first handheld though and yes i agree the first model wasn't anything special (PSP slim was better). But base everything on 1 console is just wrong, they have made thousands of electronics and most of them are pretty good imo, overpriced but good.

Things are also quite a bit cheaper in the US than in Japan or here in Europe.  Keep that in mind

High prices don't seem to hurt Apple. New technology costs a lot of money. Ninty aren't the sort of company to sell HW at a loss. If Sony couldn't put PSP Go onto the market at a profit at less than $250 seems to me like Ninty won't be able to put 3DS (technologically superior?) on to the market at a profit for less than that.

We'll see I suppose.

PSP-GO could have been sold with PSP price at a profit. I really don't see why they overpriced it that much.

how much was DS when it launched?

Ha! I knew it, when they announced the price for Europe for 200 euros, I said it will be close to $300 dollars..

So I say it again, those rumors 3DS specs better be RUMORS!  At that price, I dont want GameCube graphics niether Wii graphics, I want XBOX1 graphics or better .. Android, Iphone4 and mobile7 phones should look average compared to the 3Ds..

I want a good internet browser with the latest flash in it, an improved set of speakers over the DSi speakers, at least loud enough to hear the movie I'm watching.

A better overall online community.

I know NiNTENDO and 3RD party devs will deliver the games for sure, but I want it with these added perks .

I dont mind the $300 tag, make it $400 for me if it comes fully loaded.

It's been said numerous times...

Platform (US release) MSRP in Japan/US: actual JPY/USD exchange rate -> exchange rate based on comparison of prices (plus percentage that Nintendo adds to price of US dollar in yens):

DS Lite (Jun 2006) ¥16800/$130: ¥114.63 -> ¥129.23 (plus 12.7%)
DSi (Apr 2009) ¥18900/$170: ¥98.89 -> ¥111.18 (plus 12.4%)
DSi XL (Mar 2010) ¥20000/$190: ¥90.68 -> ¥105.26 (plus 16.1%)

Based on current exchange rate of ¥84.47 plus 16% that'd translate price of ¥25000 into $255. It's up to debate how much will exchange rates fluctuate in Oct 2010 - Mar 2011, it they won't you'll get 3DS in US for $250, if dollar will fall (it actually didn't fall that mach in Oct 2009 - Mar 2010), then expect $270 price tag plus some bundled game or a movie to make 3DS more attractive.

I got a psp 2000 in Sept 2008 and it had a dead pixel. i didn't return it, because I couldn't stop playing Tekken Dark Resurection, so I kept it. But I love my psp and I don't really care about one dead pixel. I never had any other problems with a sony product.
