The NES and SNES were the only Nintendo home consoles that saw stellar 3rd party support, both quantity and quality, while we all know the N64 and GC didn´t...and when the Wii started gaining a lot of marketshare and it was becoming clear it´d be the first time, since the SNES, a Nintendo home console would again 'win' a generation, many people thought it´d get back the kind of 3rd party support that was lost in the SNES-N64 transition...didn´t happen.
I´ve heard reasons ranging from 'no one thought the Wii would be so successful, 3rd parties bet on the wrong horse' to '3rd parties deliberately avoid putting their major guns on the system', etc....it´s probably a mix of the two.
Now, when the 'N6' comes out, 3rd parties must be aware it´ll (probably) carry over 'the Wii effect', and because of that they won´t want to ignore it like they did to the Wii...right?...I dunno, when it comes to Nintendo home consoles, it seems 3rd parties want to play a role in 'keeping it down', a contrast to Nintendo handhelds where it´s all sunshine and flowers.
If the N6 is a graphical beast, the way 3rd parties seem to like, and along with that carrying over 'the Wii effect', there´ll be absolutely no reason to ignore it.
What do you think?...I think jarrod, a vgchartz poster, said he thinks the 3DS might be an indication that Nintendo will make the N6 a beast and will be quite serious in trying to take the 'major 3rd party core support' away from Sony and MS...while Metallicube, another vgchartz poster, said he thinks as long as Sony and MS are around, Nintendo home consoles will never see stellar 3rd party support.
