Forums - Gaming - MS: Kinect launch bigger than PS3, Wii and XBox360

The reason is obvious. Unlike ps move which sony is treating as a peripheral addition to the ps3, it became more and more apparent through e3, gamescon and tgs that if you want to get any use out of your xbox starting next year, you're going to need kinect. Kincet is microsoft's new console and they are banking on it selling like one.

a peripheral selling on a console with a userbase of 42 million outselling the launch of every single console. im not that surprised, especially with the amount of hype their is.

Pffft... 42 million? That's so... a couple weeks ago.

User base aside, its an innovative device people are excited about. I predict it'll give a nice boost to console sales as well.

even though i dont agree on that part  it will give a nice boost and sell a lot. its one of the biggest marketing pushes i ever saw, natal had so much hype that even my friends who buy fifa once a year heard about it.

They heard about it because its a unique device that has people talking.

Much like the Wii, it wasn't all marketing. It genuinely intrigued the masses.

again i dont agree with you, but its true the device did intregue them. but if they saw what it turned out to be they woudnt buy it. mainly because of its casual line up, and the fact that they thought kinect was a new console, so when i told them that it wasnt they got disapointed :P, they are fifa once a year gamers you will never understand them.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Does it? I'd imagine if it did, it would also have people searching on google. Yet, people are searching for Kinect much less than in the run up to Wii launch.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Confirmed, all 2011 games require Kinect.

Before I think about mocking this...

I would like to know how many units the PS2 sold in it's opening Holiday season WW. Same goes for 360, Wii and PS3 too please

Edit: And the Nintendo DSi

Well using a lazy and easy to do method.

Xbox 360 was released on 16 November 2005 in NA, 2 December 2005 in Europe and 10 December 2005 in Japan. It sold 1,173,809 units in 2005.

Wii was released on 19 November 2006 in NA, 2 December 2006 in Japan and 8 December 2006 In Europe. It sold 2,932,010 units.

PS3 was released on 11 November 2006 in Japan, 17 November 2006 in NA, and unfortunately, for this comparison, the following year in Europe. It sold 1,232,194 units in 2006.

Wii Fit was released on 1 December 2007 and sold 878,716 units in 2007, so that's 878,716 balance boards.

DS was released on 21 November 2004 in NA, 2 December 2004 in Japan and the following year in Europe. It sold 2,857,387 in 2004.

Unfortunately the PSP was released only in Japan in 2004.

MS fans use Bing...

Seriously, I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. I'm not agreeing with the notion, "Kinect launch will be bigger." Perhaps the sales launch will be bigger due to supply issues the Wii had.

For some reason i want to say that launch supply for the Wii was about 600k (which sold through entirely) and that PS3 was around the same number?

Many big software releases spit on 600k, but it might be unfair for Kinect given that its probably easier to manufacture than a full-scale console, if we're talking in pure terms of night-one sales.

I'm just going by this list:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=116303&page=1

Which consists of Gears of war, KInect games and not much else. And I'm sure the ratio of real games to kincet games will only continue to widen.

Well I'm not implying they will buy it. I'm just saying many people are hearing about it because people are talking.

Hence, word of mouth is playing a big role.

You said that it has people talking and people are excited about it. I'm saying not that many people are excited or talking about it. If they were, they would also be searching for it.
