Forums - Sony - So anyone else get their custom fightsticks disabled?

Ouch that sucks.

I was thinking of buying Super Street Fighter IV with a fight stick but since this update, I am a little worried.

I guess I'll just try to find the game on the Xbox 360.

yeah but disabling 3rd party usb's also insures that if they do develop another way to get them working later on they wont be able to use the usb stick method anymore at all now, the other one was just a quick fix, it also means they can still use their own usb sticks as they belong to them so they can still fix broken ps3's

just thinking out aloud of course, why else would they disable 3rd part usb devices, it makes no sense at all....

they didn't disable 3rd party devices. They disabled unliscensed devices. Legally they are allowed to restrict their machine to run with only liscensed devices if they wish. It is 100% to force customers to buy liscensed products that provide Sony money. ok, you might be able to sneak a small percentage in there for piracy. The only anti-piracy thing this prevents is stopping those who don't pirate yet from having an easy opening, but they didn't stop anyone who already is.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

PS VITA = LIFE

The official Vita thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=130023&page=1

I've gotten into the habit of buying the collectors editions of fighting games recently (Tekken 6 and Blaz Blue) are the fight sticks that come with the games going to be disabled in the future? I haven't updated yet and I'd rather not update if that means my sticks are going to become useless.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

@Doobie_wop

Those official sticks so you should be fine. A lot of gamers build their own custom sticks with arcade parts using a low grade arcade stick as base. If you know what you are doing you can build an arcade caliber stick for less money than Hori and Mad Catz charge for their arcade caliber sticks. I'm sorry for your loss Kylie Dog, as a fellow fighting game fan and arcade stick user I can identify with your rage.

I read that there are numerous fake PS3 DS3 controllers selling on ebay for really cheap that could potentially explode due to the cheap battery, and you cant tell its fake til you actually hold it and see the small different details. With the new FW update it will also prevent the fake controllers from working.

Surely Sony doesnt wants is a lawsuit from a customer that got their hands blown off from a fake controller that they thought was made by Sony lol...which now reminded me of news about a guy that bought a cheap battery for his cellphone and it blew up on him as it was in his front chest pocket.

But yea, to those that bought real legit 3rd party controllers and have stopped working i feel sorry for ya.

Controllers > Stick for fighters, at least for me.

But its sad that Sony is doing this.

the new update sucks balls in general, it made the XMB pretty slow

Yea, it really did, before this update, I had some problems while playing games where the xmb would get a little slow...but now that you mention it, it has been really "laggy" lately...as much as I love my new ps3, I think a laggy xmb shows they need some performance improvements...I wish they didn't always have to release the absolute greatest hardware though...I just want a $400 release.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

I was afraid that custom fightsticks would be disabled. I was thinking about getting a custom stick made for me that would be compatible with multiple platforms (instead of having a stick for each platform) but it would be useless if tried on a PS3 thanks to the firmware update.
