Forums - Gaming - Why third party core games fail(ed) on the Wii

Jarrod is right, IMHO this whole gen compared to the last is weaker. Wii is getting crappy 3rd party support, worse than GC, Sony lost its mind in the beginning of this gen, and only now is slowly pulling there head out their ass, and MS is only now making a console that wont break after 3 months

ha that about sums it up don't it?

Luckilly I'm not very affected since I have more enough titles to enjoy on Wii with mostly Nintendo games, and the occassional third party game (Little King's Story, RE4, Monster Hunter, Zack and Wiki, etc.) My 360 did break down once but I got it fixed for free and it has been in pristine condition ever since. I can't believe the 360 failure rate was once at like 33% though, that is just unacceptable. MS is lucky that core gamers were willing to stick with them with such failure rates, because in a just world, a console like that would have failed already. And don't even get me started on PS3 with its $599 USD at launch...

In a just world, MS would have been forced to take all their RROD systems of the shelves and not be allowed to put them back until the damn thing worked.  I like Sony better than the rest but they need an ass whipping to humble them, they thought to high of themselves if they thought that people would pay 600 for PS3, luckily they wised up and the library IMHO is the best out there. And Wii, god in heaven there whole online structure is bad, VC sucks now, Wiiware is getting pure crap. But theres always 1st party

I will admit I don't buy many 3rd Party games because why should I if I can buy a Nintendo game for the same price thats miles better? The only time I find myself buying a 3rd Party game is when Nintendo hasn't had anything I like for a while and I am taking a break from my already owned Nintendo games. The only games that compete with Nintendo games for me is the Resident Evil games...even The Darkside Chronicles was well made in my opinion. RE1,RE2, and RE3 are all in my top 10 games of all time but the other 7 are probably Nintendo games.

Considering how well the RE games have done on it, I think a lot of Wii owners agree with you.  It's one of the few "core" or "traditional" brands that really seems to stand up with Nintendo's favorably.  Monster Hunter, Sonic and (eventually) Dragon Quest are probably the other big stand outs.

Yeah Sonic will always do well on a Nintendo console...M.H and D.Q are mainly do to Japan though.

I mean its the same for me this year...I am considering buying/Getting 6 games for Wii this Holiday but I won't have enough money to get all of them so the ones that I do get as of now would all be Nintendo games...for example If I could pick 4 games to get before 2010 ends on Wii and I had to pick right now it would be: Kirby,Donkey Kong,Wii Party, and FlingSmash...leaving Sonic Colors and Golden Eye 007 in the dust.

There is no debate.

Ask anyone who isn't a forum dweller and they will tell you...

"I get the Nintendo/Mario games and stuff, but the Wii doesn't really have any good games." - Common person

The 3rd party games are terrible and terribly advertised, period. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. 98% of all Wii 3rd party titles have been made by the worst of teams with the worst of intentions.

This is not overexaggeration or hyperbole, it is absolute fact. I've been looking at the Wii getting dicked of good games for 4 years now and this is the inconvenient truth.

3rd parties don't want to support the console. On the PS3/360, they have free reign- Sony & MS first parties presence is fairly minimal so the inmates run the asylum. On the Wii, they would have to actually pull of something somewhat original and not have to rely on graphcial fidelity alone to get their poorly constructed game concepts out there. I own all the consoles and I enjoy every one of them, but all these "hardcore games" that people swear by and jerk off to are just trashy games in shiny clothing.

To end it here I will reiterate, 3rd parties have been near worthless on the Wii. If their games were good, people would buy their games like they buy the Nintendo ones. Name your favorite "AA-AAA" 3rd party Wii games and I can give you the laundry list of careless flaws behind them all.

Prince of Persia - The Forgotten Sands

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom

No More Heroes 2

NHL Slapshot

Silent Hill: Shattered memories

Boom Blocks: Bash Party

Tiger Woods 11 (only careless flaw is TW is in the game)

While you are mostly right, there have been numerous good games, that never got the sales they deserved.

If it takes mass industry destruction to be a rennaissance for core gamers, it shows how twisted over things have really become

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't wanna have to explain in painstaking detail why each of those games "never got the sales they deserved" but if you want me to, just say the word.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

@savior x  i for one am curious to know why those games didnt get the sales they deserved, im serious, i really wanna know. no flaming
